Easily the best because he actually tells you to change the recipe if you don't have all the ingredients or just don't like that ingredient.
He also tells you what not to do because he messes up while cooking because he will try out a recipe from some random site and tells you how to fix it.

i've watched every video he's ever made and about a third of them i've watched at least twice. they're essentially where i learned all the basic cooking skills and technique that let you make almost anything. i also enjoy his personality even though it isn't for everyone.

Of course he shills, but its admirable that he uses some restraint and disclosure when shilling.
He sold out to Allrecipes, he did the Idahoan potato thing, he shilled for the Google Nexus phone, he promoted some pressure cooker that gave him free equipment, he constantly shills his own stuff, most notably the SFQ BBQ sauce, also T-shirts and shit, and now his YouTube channel makes you sign up and subscribe to see the actual recipes. And his trajectory makes it clear he plans to shill and monetize even more further in the future.
That said, I learned a lot from Chef John. But you simply cant put a Jew online without expecting a cash grab. The restraint thus far has been impressive.
