Have you ever gone on a trip for beer tourism?

Also, what should I get next from pic related?

get the yarn that has the price tags on it and hopefully that's enough

I went to the US for beer. Also to meet some of my buddies that I met from the beer generals that used to be a thing regularly.

Boston was pretty damn good. Small scene but some really good quality breweries, stores and bars. Went there mainly for Extreme Beer Fest, which featured a lot of top-notch breweries from across the country. You really must visit Trillium though.

Chicago had a lot more of all of those things, but at about the same quality level.

LA was also pretty good, but it's hard to get out to a lot of the locations so it's best to do one area at a time like Torrens or Anaheim. That being said there's some really good places that seemed to me to be in the middle of nowhere and thus I didn't visit them unfortunately.

If you're in Europe I'd recommend going to Manchester, Belgium or Copenhagen though. Manchester's great for beer, really the beer capital of the UK at the moment in my opinion.

To be honest the craft scene is really huge in the UK. Bristol is good for craft beer and strangely so is Cardiff

It's been closed for a while though.

I've only really been to London, Manchester and Exeter. Exeter had a nice little bar where everyone was friendly, but not much else. Someone was nice enough to buy me a drink there but I didn't stick around because I wasn't well.

I did briefly pop down to Buxton briefly one time and had some really fun ice cream beers there.

Yes, practically every abroad trip is beer tourism in part because in my country alcohol is so expensive that going to another country is like a miracle of cheap beer

>> No.13475228

>>13475186
What country do you reside in that alcohol is that expensive? Australia?

>> No.13475249

>>13475228
Finland. There's a phenomenon called "booze rally" where people go on the ferry to Estonia to buy alcohol because it's so much cheaper there. Well, Estonia is raising taxes so people started going to Latvia instead. But yeah.

>> No.13475253

>>13475249
Shame, as Estonia has much better booze than Latvia. I assume most people are just looking for cheap piss though.

You'd be correct, mostly. But I guess some people would still go for the quality stuff because of the money saved.

My county is worse than that. Towns have to have a minimum population size to sell liquor and wine, and the town no matter the size has to vote whether to permit the sale of beer.

Manchester wasn't too great for beer when I went there a month ago. Honestly, the best craft beer in the UK is in Wales and the south west at the moment in terms of quality

Used to be a similar thing in the UK getting a ferry to France to get cheap wine and lager. We called it a Booze Cruise since it rhymed and involved a boat.

Yes, I went to Tasmania. It was legit.
Recently had some Victorian craft beers. Kiwi Sours. They tasted like vomit. But I also had a raspberry rye milk porter and that was great.

Had a really well made pale from du Cane recently but they've only made three beers. Bruny Island is supposed to be good too. There's some good Tasmanian beer out there but I don't think it's worth traveling there for it.

The local beers can pretty much all be had in local, overpriced, pubs. There's not a lot of travelling to be done.

>>13489263
Bruny Island has some great beers, can confirm.
Given that I live in Melbourne, it's not much of a travel. I did a bit of hiking there too. Some of the best hiking in the world, I'm told.
Not baller enough for Tasmanian whisky though.
