Not the same dude. What makes garlic "spicy" is the allicin content, which rapidly degrades after its been chopped up and sits for a while. I just put some pre-peeled cloves in my press and wa-la, fresh garlic. More expensive, but so much easier.

Add one yolk to a coffee cup, add about a tablespoon of oil and whisk. It will emulsify almost instantly because there is nothing but fat there. Continue until you have enough, then season it.

Chefs come from the context of having to prep enormous quantities of food. A lot of unitaskers fail for them because they are also designed to be used like once or twice a meal instead of several hundred times. A good chef would be able to do shit faster and better with a knife because that is their skillset. And obviously, learning that skillset is a better use of time for anybody who cares about cooking beyond at-home shit. Unitaskers are more for home cooks who don't care, for their convenience. Oh no no no. Hell no.

Jarred garlic is cooked and pickled in a funny tasting preserving liquid. It's simply not the same thiing. It's also famously a risk for botulism. Throw that crap out and don't buy it again. There's very little application for it.

I don't even like chili-garlic paste. No sriracha. Pasteurized garlic is as nasty as burning it in your pan. Gross. I will only buy chili paste sambal.

Presses are easy to clean or it could be a weird qualitty. Try another brand. I press garlic right through the papers, 1-2 cloves at a time. Spin a fork in there, and papers are flicked out. Reload if needed. Bristle brush one time on each side, and it's scrupulously clean. If it's faster for the job at hand not to have to wash a cutting board and knife, then use the press. Then, back into the drawer.

Pic is how I break a vacuum seal before I unscrew a cap. Good unitasker.

I use a garlic press every day to press an entire bulb of garlic in a single press. The entire process takes about 30 seconds, including washing.

Using a press to extrude garlic allows for a far stronger flavor than crushing or chopping/mincing garlic. This allows you to use less garlic for seasoning purpose.

Tbh some unitaskers are alright. Garlic press being one of them. 95% are crap though.

Tbh the main issue with uniitaskers is that they keep someone from actually learning how to cook or do real knife work. They help someone to put something together but they miss the actual craftsmanship of cooking.

Knife work is fun. Dunno why people avoid it at all costs.

A knife is a unitasker.

The lesson is that you need to ignore cunts that spout simple but wrong rules like "don't own unitaskers" and instead revel in complex but useful rules like "Every time you want to purchase a thing for your kitchen, consider whether it will take space and money from something else that would be more useful to own."
