I've been here in Seoul for about 4 weeks and had most of the major eats and frequented all the major street food markets... I was wondering if there's something niche and interesting I should check out? Pic maybe related

meme aside try dog if you havent. It's not particularly good but is worth trying once. Koreans call it "sweet meat" rather than dog typically.

Go to Jeju and eat the various seafood available. Lichen stew is interesting as they add some the korean favorites like garlic and gochujang.

Seolleongtang (Ox bone soup) is super good.

Also try jeju pork. It's a black pig specific to the region.

Horse buffet.

Fast food such as shrimp burger on a rice bun.

All the bonchan.

Grilled seafood from those massive tanks. Theres so much variety. I had grilled conch when I was there.

Regional "foreign" food such as mongolian.

If you like hot, try agu-jjim (아구찜). It's a spicy fish dish that's one of the hottest dishes I've ever had.

Don't try dog. The only people eating dog in korea nowadays are impotent old men and edgy western kids.

if something is moving near you, just pick it up and eat it.

can someone explain to me why korean media seems to have so much "obligation" in their stories and interactions between their characters? it feels like every conversation and plot point hinges on one character feeling obligated to do something they don't really want to do through filial obligation or shame. they really are the Irish of Asia with all that Catholic shame

On topic I wish more Koreans came to American because then maybe their food would be cheaper and we'd have more Korean places other than their amazing BBQ joints.

Koreans have very high pressure families. Life is all about doing what your family/parents want, and family honor is huge.

They are also nuts about beauty and superficial luxury goods. It's an incredibly toxic society to be a part of.

reminds me of one 2nd gen chinese girl I knew, a 5/10 but would spend thousands of dollars of daddy's money on designer clothing. if it wasn't an expensive brand she didn't want it. it always baffled me as a young man cause i didn't know why she didn't just go to the gym or something but no it was buy a designer bag, wear sweatpants, and put on fake eyelashes.

Please eat one of these for me, OP. I've always wanted to try these and I want to live vicariously through you. Please order a cheese-on-a-stick and a french-fry covered dog and report back and tell us how it was!

I've been watching Simon and Martina for years. They're hipster foodies who taught english in S. Korea for a few years before moving to Japan. I liked their Korean culture and food videos and learned a lot through them. I'd love to visit Seoul. Lucky you.

Scroll through their older korean food videos and get an idea as to what you can explore around town.
