Are Chicago style hot dogs overrated? I know vienna beef weiners are over priced, thats for sure. What's a better hot dog than a chicago dog?

>> No.13457777

Chicago hotdogs are objectively the best hot dog style. Of course some brands are better than others, and you could improve upon the mass produced dogs and buns, just like everything else made on a large scale.

I lived in Chicago for a year and a half and loved the loaded hot dogs besides the crazy looking relish. And yeah, if you put ketchup on a hot dog you’re an 8 year old.

Chicago dogs are objectively the worst hot dogs only loved by tryhards trying to impress others. The best is a simple all beef hot dog with ketchup.

Too much shit. Hotdogs are puree'd pig anus cake, caring about what someone does or doesn't put on one is pathetic.

For me, 'chup and a single slice of pickle is the way to go, but I couldn't pass down a chili cheese dog or [spoiler] a dog with baked beans on it

Of course I do. I don’t see how that’s an argument. Have you ever even had a Chicago dog that wasn’t from Weinerschnitzels?

>> No.13458445

A good Chicago dog is my first choice, lots of places in Chi don't use the vienna beef and imho they're better for it.

My second choice is mustard with onions. Ketchup is for fries, not hot dogs.

Only children who think yellow mustard is 'spicy' and cry when they see vegetables eat hot dogs witch ketchup.

>> No.13458490

I have had a chicago dogs. Its ok, but its too many random flavors that don't work together and raw onions are inferior to grilled onions. Ketchup is a nice simple dog that people enjoy. Nothing wrong with that.

They're too much shit on a hotdog. Everything on it has a strong tangy flavor so it all clashes. I don't even understand the point of the tomatoes with all the pickled shit, onions, mustard, celery salt and elephant jizz they throw on it to make it taste like your 5 year old trying to "cook" got a hold of the spice rack.

I recently moved from the Chicagoland suburbs to North Texas; I completely forgot that i'd have to adjust to brand new food/restaurants after I'd move. I have to special order Chicago hotdog stuff from Vienna Beef's website in order to make this stuff now, pic related, made it a couple weeks ago. I used to be able to walk to Jewel and buy all this stuff for 15 bucks, now it costs me $60, not including shipping

>tfw no Portillos in Texas, despite several online petitions, so I'm forced to again order online from Portillos website and it costs fucking 80 bucks for a kit of 8 beef and sausage combos

I like them a lot. You can make a lot of variations I suppose but I think that the Chicago style is great! It's really about having good ingredients, just as any recipe.

Besides that I like a chili cheese dog, only had it once, but it was a cool experience. At home I primarily make hot dogs with mustard and either fresh or crisp fried onions.
