Flyover grocery stores tend to function as the 'deli', and many of the larger chains have an eating area as well. Not as good as Katz's but NYC delis are a meme at this point. I thought the 'real' neighborhood Deli was dead and it's all tourist spots now.

In multiculturalism traditional in-group identifying factors take a back seat to other factors. Instead of having friends from the same ethnicity as you who share some interests/beliefs, you instead socialize with those who you find interesting/challenging and share interests with.

I've lived in large, medium, and small cities and small town USA. Medium sized cities win out almost every time, with large coming in second.

Trust me, you don't want to run into your doctor at the bar or find out your boss is fucking your neighbor.

The gossip mills run more rampant the smaller the community is, they hide behind religion and friendly facades but they'll talk shit the moment you turn your back. If you haven't seen it happen you aren't an adult.

>The gossip mills run more rampant the smaller the community is,
Human communities max out about 150 people. Whether you are in a small town or a Megalopolis, you are confined to a community of 150 people. The rumors run just as tight in a big city, even more so IMO. Furthermore since you're more finely granularized, when you run out of social capital room in your big city, more-specialized community, you are extinct as a social entity. Smaller towns force more diversity and therefore more tolerance for social deviance. If you think big city communities immunize against this you aren't an adult.

>have a nice quiet meal at the counter and pound like 6 coffees
>pass onwards never to see it again
I love traveling and this is usually a kino feeling in a place you've never been before.

Food in Australian country towns has never disappointed me. It seems to be that if the food is even slightly mediocre, that a restaurant is not financially viable. From there you just apply the rule of most customers = best restaurant (which always works since everyone in a country town has tried the food at every establishment) and you'll always do extremely well.
Plus there are perks to being in the country, like direct from farm ingredients and unpasteurised beer.

The difference in a big city is you can cut people out of your life more easily. Awkward breakup? never have to see her again. Friends acting like dicks? just don't hang out with them anymore. In a smaller city you end up running into people you don't mean to

Are you a Syracuse anon? If so, where do you think the comfy diners are? Only a couple come to mind for me. Nestico’s (not on a Sunday), Little Gem, and a couple places in North Syracuse that I can’t seem to specifically remember the name of.

Flyover diners in rural areas are often about stuffing yourself to go sit in a deer blind or fish for the next 4-12 hours. Often this involves cold, even sitting out on a frozen lake.
We know breakfast is not the most important meal of the day, but in these contexts it is.
Biscuits, hashbrowns, American fries, pancakes, these all set up in the bowels like glue so that you don't have to take a shit when the Buck Fever strikes.
