The fuck is this?
is this a prank?

Yes, with soy sauce on top of rice

>> No.13447822

usually you'd mix it with hot rice and a raw egg, so the egg basically cooks in the rice.

Its delicious, cheap, and good for you.

It barely cooks. It is raw dude. The japanese love raw eggs. They crack an egg, beat it, and then dip things into it. Is that egg being "cooked" as well?

In the case of OPs dish, the natto is cold. The shoyu is cold. The japanese mustard you normally add is cold. It is raw.

It's an "acquired taste".
That means it's disgusting, but Japanese and weebs get used to it for the alleged health benefits.

It's a meme soyweeb food.

Almost all Asian food is some variety of "peasant food", since throughout history almost all Asians were very poor and needed to use common ingredients or uncommon parts of butchered animals. You'll also notice that many Asian recipes are very simple in terms of ingredients, but may have a "twist" such as fermentation or inclusion of an ingredient that our western palates may describe as clashing with the other ingredients of the dish, which is done to bring a uniqueness to an otherwise dull dish.

Take natto for example, if it wasn't fermented it would just be soy beans. A cheap and plentiful ingredient which would get quite boring after only a short time, but becomes much more complex and varied once put through a fermentation process.

>> No.13452643

i tried some natto in a restaurant and it just tasted like slightly different beans, what is all the fuss about? or did they dumb it down for the western palate somehow?

You seem to be the racist, as is very common with your types. I simply don't give a shit about your fucking nations and don't want to visit them.
If you want to call me racist for disagreeing with you then you must have been shillary supporters since that's the best that they can do.
Are you still seething in your closets because Trump beat your annointed one?

It's natto, It is fermented soybeans, it is very sticky, the closest I could approximate it to is like a snail's mucus. It actually tastes really good, I'd put it somewhere on the range of imagine peanuts but with an unidentifiable sweetness to them. the raw egg actually helps it become less sticky so it's not glued to your chopsticks as you eat it. honestly during my year in japan, this, and some pickled cucumber and radish with a raw egg is a pretty good breakfast.
