I used to do that, throw some cayenne flakes or chinese pepper oil into my coffee. There was also a spicey hot chocolate mix I used to get.

I mean it has its taste benefits and I use it all the time in conjunction with other spices but on its own it's kinda bad t b h it just tastes mostly bitter and so does straight coffee but if you need a big old cup of bitter juice to wake you up and black coffee isn't bitter enough I suppose it would do the trick for you
