It's Giant Puffball. i heard and read that it is delicious but haven't seen any in many years. It was fun to stomp on ripe ones, they exploded into massive clouds of brown spores. Only unripe mushroom, still white inside is edible

The best puffballs are the scaly looking ones about the size of a softball but you can only find the particular type I'm thinking of at extremely high altitudes, lowest I ever found it was 9200' in the Rockies.
