Does it really matter if animals suffer for us to have good food? Farms should keep clean conditions so that the people who eat the animals don't get sick of course, but really it's all about the food tasting good. If being free range makes chicken taste better then great, if being stuck in a cage makes them taste better, then I'll have that. We're breeding and raising animals to taste as best possible and slaughtering them in the end. If you're okay with the part of raising them to be slaughtered then why do you even give a fuck about how they are raised as long as they are in clean conditions that will not make you sick? You either believe that human life is above all else or you don't. It's ridiculous to nitpick over eating cow and chicken but eat fish and they all operate on instinct as slugs and other organisms do even if they can show distress which slugs and plants can, too.

It's less a matter of taste or even animal cruelty and more a matter of ecological impact. Foie gras is made from domesticated ducks and geese, they serve no other role than being food for humans and it just so happens that preparing them in a certain way makes certain parts of their body delicious. By contrast, sharks are wild animals and serve an important role regulating fish populations around the world. In absence of predators, like sharks, fish lower on the food chain will begin to overpopulate and consume all of the lower level organisms resulting in an ecological collapse. Chinese shark fining takes away thousands of animals necessary for a healthy ecosystem.

The majority are raised in the most economical way possible. That's not to say high quality or tasty meat doesn't exist, but it's safe to say probably 80% of animals raised for food are raised with quantity over quality in mind. The more people support cheap, tasteless shit, the more they'll raise this way. It's like how a ton of grocery store tomatoes/fruits look nice and uniform but pale in comparison to properly grown ones and taste like watery asshole. The best tasting pork I've ever had was in a 3rd world country where the lil nigga was fed tablescraps and soda
