What are you cooking for Thanksgiving this year?

>> No.13214210

>>13214180
Probably nothing. Both my parents died last year around this time and what was left of the rest of my family pretty much fell apart after that. Hiding inside and sticking my head in the sand seems to be my holiday plans.

I killed this turkey personally. Caught him slippin' in the woods.

16lbs this nigga was. Going to have a ton of leftovers

Nobody's going to be around. So probably a rotisserie chicken, instant mashed potatoes, stove top stuffing mix, and green bean casserole made from condensed soup. And sadness.

Damn that's depressing as fuck

I don't know. It's only the wife and me, and I don't really like turkey that much. Last year I made a fuckhueg Italian dinner. It was great, but too much food for the two of us. I was eating the leftovers for weeks.

I made a great pork roast last night, so I might make that again. If I could find some really nice Red Snapper, I could make some of my favorite Cuban food. I'm trying to no-carb, but I will make a pumpkin pie for her, regardless.

I'll be pic-related for more ideas.

My wife and I both come from divorced parents, so we usually have at least 3 stops to make on thanksgiving/Christmas. This year we are having a small dinner at our house the night before thanksgiving for family we wouldn’t get to see otherwise. I plan on making:
>full turkey breast, brined and roasted
>gravy from pan drippings
>mashed potatoes
>vegetable side of some sort, either green bean(casserole) or roasted asparagus
>fall spice cheesecake

>>13214210
That really sucks, anon. If you’re near central Ohio, feel free to stop by for a plate.

That's kind, thank you.

My parents told me to stay at my place this year so I'll probably just roast a turkey, maybe do a baked potatoe and get a can of cranberry sauce. I think I have some ice cream in the fridge for dessert.

No family and I'll be closing a Kroger that day (5pm) so whatever catches my fancy on the way out (from whatever is left). Probably bacon and eggs.

Man I am gonna try and give it to you from memory and my grandmother always told me add more or less of whatever you like
Onions about 3 finely chopped
Couple stalks of celery finely chopped
One green bellpepper finely chopped
couple cloves of garlic
Half a loaf of stale french bread cubed
half a lb of ground beef
half a lb of hot pork sausage
a pint of oysters
cook the vegetables on low heat with bacon fat until they sweat
cook all the meat and boil the oysters for about 5 minutes until they start to curl you can chop up the oysters or leave them whole depending on how you want it.
take the cubed stale french bread and soak in some chicken broth.
combine all and throw some whisked eggs in there.
you can cook in turkey or just bake it for about 35-45 minutes on about 350 Add salt and cayenne pepper throughout cooking just regular pepper if you can't handle spice

Similar story, my family used to watch "It's a Wonderful Life" every year around xmas. After a suicide in the immediate family, we still get together for holidays and such, but no one has proposed another screening since.

One thing I still plan to do, mostly in memory of my dad, is watch A Christmas Story. So many other traditions feel like they're just going to hurt, but the nostalgia of watching it every year through Christmas breakfast and preparation for the family dinner just reminds me of good memories. As kids we'd always be playing while TBS played it for 24 hours, and as I grew older I helped cook and it stayed on.

>> No.13218681

>>13218638
I understand that it's a holiday classic, and the associated memories are what give the film a justified personal connection to many people. But holy god that movie is a difficult to sit through if your first viewing occurs at age 13 or up.

It's got a sort of dual nature the way Calvin and Hobbes does. When you're younger you relate to Ralphie and Calvin, and when you're older you appreciate the stuff the creators put in there for adults. I'm not saying it's for everyone, but my appreciation of the movie has shifted over time. I imagine you feel similar to the way I do when I get conned into some teen drama as an adult. I just can't relate.

Thanksgiving food is incredibly repetitive. Same thing as last year. And the year before that. Go back 30 more years, still the same shit every time.
Some traditions are hard to break, I really see no reason to change it up. People expect the classics to all be there, and its enough.
Turkey (alternative and/or additional: ham or a roast)
Stuffing
Mashed potatoes (gravy of course)
Sweet potato casserole
Green bean casserole
Mac and cheese
Cranberry sauce
Dinner rolls
Salad that nobody will touch
Pie (choose: pumpkin, apple, pecan)
Cookies, fudge, mixed nuts as appetizers
Wine

Did I miss anything? Someone will be upset if that shit isn't all present, and there's little room for more. So, do you even need to ask?

>> No.13218985

I'm going to a gathering 8 hours away. I guess I could bring candied pecans or pickles. I'm not really sure what would travel well or if I'll be able to use their kitchen without taking up space.

so are you complaining about your lack of agency in making a unique dish for thanksgiving?
there's no purpose in your reply and you should probably seek to do some introspection on how much of a brainkek you are

personally im making some sweet potato cornbread with a pomegranate sauce

Add a massive bowl of fresh vegetables in a giant green tupperware bowl with ice water to keep it crisp, with a dip of some type with it. Every year. And the kids would all snack on it so much that we had no room for dinner.

Different strokes for different folks. I found the narration especially grating, with odd situations and sped-up footage being used as a replacement for humor.
