Maybe its cause I live in the "new york" of leafland aka toronto, but ramen here is fucking pricey for something that isn't very high in quantity per bowl, compared to something like pho which is almost always cheaper and more filling. Perhaps the meme status of ramen to westerners warranted the prices, but I really wish I could enjoy just one bowl and be satisfied, I dont want to pay so much more just so I can be full.

Actual good Ramen is overpriced and considered a luxury outside of Japan. In NYC it will cost you at least $14 a bowl with tax.

Meanwhile you can get absolute god tier, like top 10 best bowls of ramen in the world for 1100 yen (like $10) in Japan.

I feel the same too, whenever I crave ramen, there's that lingering feeling that eventually convinces me it's not worth $13-15 for a regular sized bowl and I end up going for pho or some chinese noodles instead. I don't understand why it's only Japanese food that tends to be the most expensive Asian food, is it because anything Japanese tends to be "folded a thousand times" tier quality or believed to be? The hype for ramen in my area seems to be undying and new ramen places keep showing up, maybe there's actual some sort of ramen mafia or something ridiculous, or just Japanese scamming ignorant gaijin.

Ramen is pretty different to stuff you'll find in either of those countries. But if you're looking for noodle soup countries with a variety of different broths, I would look at Thailand (Kuay jab, yen ta fo, boat noodles etc.). Indonesia and Vietnam are pretty strong in that department also.

That said, a top notch ramen place is pretty difficult to find outside of Japan.

I went to some hip ramen place in Bend with my wife, it was OK but not worth $15 a bowl. Also the clearly Japanese guy who was the "chef" glared at me the whole time as I slurped the noodles, even though that's how you're supposed to eat it.

Won't be going back. Also they had a Moloch owl as their logo.

Never said there wasn't. The majority of ramen or even B-kyu foods are of the lowest quality. In this case, it really helps to cross reference ramendb and tabelog with blog reviews or magazines.
