Some people say it's oil, but it's just not plausible since you can't keep oil at frying temperature in a glass for a significant amount of time, and the liquid's power doesn't seem to decrease even when they "fry" multiple insects (while it should significantly cool down every time if it was oil).
Plus, some of them do it in bottles instead and drink it afterwards, which would be impossible if it was oil (since they'd be drinking scalding oil).
