Reporting back.
It tasted, all in all, pretty good. However, there are a few points of failure which people should be aware of.
Doughnuts are different from hamburger buns in terms of bread structure – the lighter texture of a donut gets soaked with burger juices more easily, and so you have to either eat fast, use dry meat, or use doughnuts that're made to have a thicker texture.
The amount of sugar glaze on the typical doughnut is enough to compliment the taste of one patty, one slice of cheese, and some bacon. You can probably swing two patties if they're McDonalds-style thin, but one patty is the way to go on this. Especially since the bun, the chassis of the burger, probably won't be able to handle the juice of two whole patties.
Doughnuts are pretty small in diameter. Be forewarned.

Last: Turning the halves of the doughnut inside-out could probably make for a better experience, as the comparatively-harder crust on the outside of the doughnut would better stand up to burger juices. Same thing with using a whole doughnut as the bun, like some of the examples here do.
