Sometimes I think my white name is convincing to-go places to make me milder food.
Does anyone use a fake ethnic name to get spicier food? does this work?

This sort of happened to me recently actually. I'm 1/4 Mexican and look generically ethnic but my first and last name are pretty Anglo. Some people have guessed I'm Mexican, some people think I like Middle Eastern, some people think I like Indian, etc...

Anyway, there's an Indian place not too far from where I live. I hadn't been there before so I wanted to go in and look around and I ended up getting some saag paneer and choley to go. I take it home and it's great. Next weekend I call in an order for carry out and get the same thing and it tasted completely different. Total lack of spice compared to the first time I got it.

A lot of places will say their food is spicy but not actually make it spicy because they don't want people complaining and sending it back asking for it to be remade. I've only gotten spicy food from one Chinese restaurant out of ten+ I've tried. Indian and Thai restaurants seem more likely to actually make their food spicy though regardless of what color your skin is.
