/ck/ I need your help. I'm having a problem with my apple pie recipe atm. I've got my crumble topping where I want it flavor wise but I keep having this problem where if I take it out when the crumble is just right the apples inside are just a bit under cooked. If i leave it in long enough for the apples to cook properly it comes out looking like this.

Is there a way to prevent the crumble from burning without under cooking the apples or changing the recipe?

Slice your apples up and put them in a saucepan with a few teaspoons of water and give them a pre stew.

would it be fine to do this after mixing the apples with the sugar, flour, and spices or should it be done beforehand?

Do the spices after you've stewed the apples so you don't burn anything on the bottom.

i would do it the other way around: bake it most of the way, and when the crumble is almost done, cover the pie until the inside is finished.
