Whilst I believe that the recent 4Chan/4Channel spilt was a smart move by Hiro I believe that /ck/should do the same and become separate food and cooking boards. /ck/ for cooking and people who genuinely enjoy the culinary arts and /fo/ as a containment board for the McDonald’s junk food type discussion and the YouTube/Eceleb kiddies(face it, even the sh*thole that is /tv/ doesn’t want them).
My suggestion has been generally well received amongst the 4Channel IRC community and I emailed the site owner/admins for their feedback too.
What do you think /ck/? The sticky might actually get published as well!
>pic related: what the average /fo/ poster would look like :D

The split was for advertising purposes because nobody wanted to pay for ads on a porn site

It may clean things up a bit.
We’ve had major problems with weeabs, animu fags and underage B& recently.
Not to mention all the pathetic low energy bait threads.

What if 4chan had a tagging system? Something where whenever you make a thread, each board has a set of tags to chose from. /ck/ might have
>Fast food
>Appliances
>Baking
>Beverages
and so on. It might even discourage off-topic posting

I agree. Although it wouldn't solve all the issues we have on /ck/, it would be a start.

This is a huge philosophical discussion waiting to happen, and it will ultimately go nowhere. Trying to draw a line between fast/junk food and food you cook yourself is a fool's errand. The fantasy that lazy stupid people eat fast food because it cheap and ubiquitous and they don't give a shit is appealing to those who think of themselves as superior for cooking their own food from fresh ingredients. But it's a plank in your eye. At the end of the day even the most garbage fast food meal has a balance of flavors that is alluring and similar to the balance of flavors you'd find in dishes served in Michelin starred restaurants. Similar balances are found in many classic home cooking dishes. Pretending that's not true is just fucking stupid. That doesn't mean there isn't a line between the two. There's a lot of garbage food discussed here that I wouldn't eat. I haven't been to a McDonald's in over a decade. But claiming that a Big Mac, Coke and fries is all that different from steak frites with poivre sauce and a glass of house red is kidding yourself.

If we can't get a /co/ general board or a /v/ industry, news, and celebrity board, AKA twitter screenshot containment board, than there's no way /ck/ is ever getting a fast food board. Those first two desperately need to be made first.

Fast food was always destined to take over the board. Everybody can get the same items at their fast food joint, but you can't just download a copy of somebody's home cooking. Thus, actual cooking will never generate as much discussion because there's no way to sample the items and offer genuine opinions.

been around for a while, not bragging. I like the split. People will forget about 4chan, will make it niche/underground again. We just need to spam 4channel so leddit and the media bring it into focus. This is the only blue board I frequent .

It's like what Good Housekeeping did to home cooking in the 20th Century. Because they were a national magazine they only gave their seal of approval to national brands - brands that could buy advertisements in their magazine. Th upshot was any housewife in the country could find recipes in GH that used exactly the same ingredients sold in the very supermarket where they bought the magazine.

Here there are people who cook. But those interested in serious discussions about recipes, ingredients, chefs and specific high end restaurants have better places to do it than 4chan. Some of that goes down here, but the talk of food here requires a common language. A handful of us share opinions about sourdough bread baking, specific cooking styles and the like, but the vast majority consume a lot of branded food. They eat at chain restaurants and get their groceries from the supermarket. They have a favorite brand of frozen pizza, as well as opinions about BK's Impossible Whopper and Taco Bell's new menu. That's far more of a common language among the userbase than, say, the nuances of regional, seasonal Italian farmhouse cooking. We live in a branded culture so that's just how it goes.

Every fucking board wants to split. Just hide the threads like the rest of us, shitposting is an integral part of the 4cancer experience.

Or you can go back to lebbit it's your choice
