I grew up hating baked beans. My mom only bought the canned Bush's variety. To me, they taste(d) like a disgustingly sweet fart.

Then, in High School, my school started offering baked beans on the school menu and they were completely different and I fell in love. Foremost, they weren't overbearingly sweet, they actually tasted like they had a fair amount of vinegar in them; they had diced onions in the mix as well

I'm assuming this is due to a regional difference in style like with barbecue sauce, hot dogs, or pizza.

What are the disgustingly sweet baked beans called?
What are the heavily vinegared, sweet-and-sour baked beans called? Does anyone have a recipe for the sour kind?
