Why is nutmeg not used more often in cooking?

It's probably not used as often in savory cooking anymore because black pepper is commonly available. It's still fairly common in desserts. Indian food uses it more too.

I don't really like it though. I'd rather have clove, cinnamon, allspice, cardamom, etc.
