bought this in secret. how badly did i screw up guys?

family and friends say drinking at home alone is really tacky and that im going to become a spiraling, unhinged alcoholic.

i feel like its cool & fun to have a shot once a month to celebrate something?? also it tastes good???

This is a boomer cope for wasting money on overpriced bar drinks. There are people who spend a quarter of their yearly income drinking at a bar in their hometown and think because they are surrounded by strangers it isn’t sad.

It's literally the most intensely flavorful sherried scotch there is, and one of the best scotches under $100. You didn't screw up at all. You chose a fine scotch.
Drink no more than a shot at a time, and not from a shot glass. Drink it neat, at room temperature, take TINY sips, roll it around your tongue and savor that shit.

Fucking based brother, no DUI risks, save the good booze for yourself, order a pizza or something and just chill. Don't listen to the insecure asshats who insist that you have to drink with other people, that's horseshit

>> No.12896591

Sounds like you're insecure about your own thoughts, considering you're writing question marks after them.

Could have been wise to buy something cheap to compare it to, but perhaps you've already done that.

Don't worry so much about what others think, but do heed the general advice and consider that they may simply want the best for you.

Also, it's cask strength. It's going to burn. That's unavoidable at that ABV. It may be a little too much for you to handle if you aren't used to drinking spirits neat.
If it's too much for you to handle, shelve it for a while. Keep it upright in a dark, cool place. It shouldn't change flavor if you keep it out of light and heat. Try some other scotches out and work your way up from 40% to 50% and so on until you can appreciate the A'bunadh.
Don't you fucking dare add water to the A'bunadh. I don't care what anyone else says on the internet. You'll be diluting it and ruining the intensity of the flavors. Don't be a bitch.

A significant fraction of the population does this. Probably north of 40%.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with drinking alone, it's even better if you have a dimly-lit "study" or personal library/home office where you can be alone and sip your scotch. i'm not talking about a "man cave". i'm just talking about space to be alone. could be your living room apartment. Not bad. Drinking alone isn't a big deal. Honestly I find it way harder to overdrink while alone than it is with friends, I was a much bigger alcoholic back when I was social. Cost fucking way more too. Now I just have a home bar and enjoy a drink or two every couple of days and drink red wine or beer with dinner. Liquor should be treated as an indulgence as it has no nutritional value, red wine and to a lesser extent beer, in moderation, are healthy additions to a diet.

>>12896636
He means that whiskey is not a shot sort of drink unless you're doing kid stuff like fireball. Whiskey should be enjoyed either very slightly chilled or at room temperature in a highball glass, it's more of a sipping drink. I recommend Buffalo Trace for a good entry level bourbon, never been a scotch guy myself but BT is very smooth and easy for new drinkers and it's also great for mixing. Honestly all I drink is bourbon and Italian liqueurs anymore.

Personally I prefer it, I dont enjoy social situations even with booze; i just wanna have fun and play vidya with friends. That being said its easy to lose control especially when tolerance build sup if you're a heavy drinker (like me). If you enjoy what you bought and dont abuse it to your own detriment then fuck what others say and just enjoy it.

It's good to have an emergency fund, but at some point when that's built out, you should find out if there's a tax sheltered savings plan at your workplace (assuming you live in libertarian burgerland and not a country with an actual social safety net system that does this kind of thing automatically). Otherwise you're paying taxes prematurely and not capitalizing on those gains
