Hello, I've been watching some guy's videos (sv3rige), and he's what I can only describe as an anti-vegan activist, but he acts like them in reverse: instead of eating only plants, he eats only raw meats.

He makes several points in his videos, some which I knew, but he says that we should not eat plants because they are toxic, basically. Something he said that I did know is that we cannot digest fiber. However, everyone recommends fiber for healthy GI tract...

Is that right or is he simply on another seat of the same shortbus as vegans?

He says plants makes us bloated and constipated, but vegans say the same regarding meats. I'm very confused.

In theory, raw meat has more nutrients than cooked meat. During cooking, most heat-sensitive, soluble and volatile nutrients such as Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) may leach into the broth or get denatured and lose their functional characteristics. On the other hand, raw meat is difficult to digest which makes most of the nutrients unavailable for the body to absorb. Hence, the need for cooking to make the nutrients available. Moreso, uncooked meat contains microorganisms that can cause problems in the body, you are more likely to ingest germs than nutrients when you consume raw meat. Therefore, cooked meat makes more nutrients available than raw meat.

Although a bit of a meme, sv3rige brings up important points that the mainstream neglect. Plants absolutely don't want to be eaten, but unlike animals, they lack teeth and claws to defend themselves, so they utilize chemical defenses instead. A single kidney bean ingested raw can kill an adult human, due to its phytohaemagglutinin content, for example. Various other plants have specific antinutrients that may have less lethal acute effects.

Here is a more scientific perspective regarding plant versus animal nutrition:

>Plants absolutely don't want to be eaten
Anything with seeds pretty much wants to be eaten so the seeds will be pooped out somewhere else and help the plant spread.

They also don't want to be eaten by pests or things that will totally destroy them without helping them reproduce. Caffeine, nicotine, capsaicin, etc. all act as pesticides, but it's also the reason we like a lot of plants. We've also bred most plants to have minimal levels of the things that are supposed to be bad for you, anyway.

Obesity, alcoholism, and smoking too much will do it too. Meat in a balanced diet is probably fine, but overeating it will cause some problems. Just like with sugar, staying at around 20g per day seems to be fine, but most people are getting 70g+ which is why there are so many problems with it. Basically just keep everything in moderation.

Agreed. Fruits provide plenty of health benefits though, even if they're not high in fat and protein. Since we're omnivores we can survive on a bunch of different diets like this but the best ones seem to be just doing things moderately.

something that binds to minerals and doesn't let you absorb them during digestion. the problem is that unless your diet is nothing but whole grains, it probably doesn't bind to enough minerals to cause a problem. and some studies show them acting as antioxidants or having other health benefits in small amounts. so they might not be completely bad.

>> No.12884525

Not true, anti nutrients bind up quite a lot of minerals in your body. For example, this study on 75 vegan women in Germany found that 40% of them were iron deficient, despite average iron intakes that were above the recommended daily allowance:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14988640

Many plant foods that contain zinc also contain the antinutrient phytate, which inhibits zinc absorption. Vegetarian diets tend to reduce zinc absorption by about 35% compared with omniovorous diet. Thus, even when the diet meets or exceeds the RDA for zinc, deficiency may still occur. This study suggested that vegetarians may require up to 50% more zinc than omnivores for this reason:

Pretty much all plants are indeed toxic, that is true. That being said, humans can neutralize most of these toxins due to thousands of years of evolutions.
We still primarily carnivorous so digesting meat is much easier for us to do compared to plants. The main issue here is that the process of digesting meat and plants interfere with each other to an extent which may create a situation where eating meat seems to create digesting issues.
There was a study done (google it) that shows that switching to a carnivore diet for a constipated person resolves constipation pretty much always. Needing fiber for digestion is a marketing meme created by cereal manufacturers. The whole idea behind the fiber is that humans are actually terrible at digesting it so it "pushes the shit down" - which is a sound theory but it doesn't really hold up. In fact, fiber is the prime source of constipation.
So, the carnivore diet is the second-best way of unloading your digestive system right after not eating at all.
That being said, we did evolve to eat plants and we are pretty good at that too.
The main issue of going carnivore without any downsides is the fact your diet must be very varied. You can't just stick to lean beef and be done with it. You'll need meat, fish, innards - everything you can get. Unlike veganism, you can, in fact, get every nutrient you need from animal products but it'll be about as hard as being vegan and not slowly killing yourself.
A much easier way is to eat plants too because you actually can. Not to mention, carnivore diet was never studied on a truly long-term basis.
Going carnivore would put you in a constant ketosis state which is nice for losing weight and not dying but it's not really "peak performance" for a human.
Carbs are our prime source of energy and it shows. There are bodybuilders who work out on a keto diet and they tend to observe worse results compared to including carbs.
Strongmen on 10k+ calorie diet eat everything.

>> No.12889103

>>12880425
Some indigestible fibres retain water, so that helps against constipation. Of course if you have very little indigestible solids in your diet, such as a pure meat diet, you don't need that ... but if you have a diet which is otherwise healthy and all you need to add to get rid of constipation is some psyllium husk, well that sure is easy.

Some fiber ferments in your colon. It produces some gas, but not on the same level as say beans, but it also produces short chain fatty acids. Higher amounts of SCFAs are to the best of our knowledge beneficial.

The soluble/insoluble classification is likely too simplistic to specify what and how much fibre in your diet is beneficial.

One thing is certain, we're all going to die and Sverige is not going to live to 140.

>> No.12889107

>>12889098
I would also add that cooking meat would do fuck all to its nutrition value. I highly doubt there's a big difference in the digestion process either.
The reason to cook your meat is to sanitize and preserve it. Don't kill yourself by eating raw meat, anon. It really isn't worth it.
