Who else loves collecting these sorts of cookbooks? Local and church cookbooks, club cookbooks. All sorts of unbelievable family recipes tucked away in them, and you don't have to hunt through insufferable mommyblogs to find weird shit.

I've got a few. My favorite is the one from a Catholic School fundraiser in the 60s. Lots of good Portuguese and Italian stuff in there. The other one I have is from a protestant church and its just a plethora of Midwestern casseroles inspired by cans of Campbell's soup.

Interesting. Any notable desserts?

That's exactly the kind of thing I was thinking of, because I had just looked at one the other day that had mashed potato cookies.

Its fucking dank bro. My fav cake. Everyone in my family macks down on it. There will never be any leftovers to take home if you make it for a party.

I'm guessing that the mashed potato (like in potato bread) makes it really moist and probably a bit fudgy.

Yeah its very dense. It tastes like spicy dark chocolate. Almost kinda like a brownie. I like it unforsted and left out til it gets a nice dry crumble and I drink a pint of milk with it.

Can you flesh out the directions a little? For example, idk what 'fold' as a verb in this context means.

>> No.12803405

>>12803285
Basically your well beaten egg whites should be frothy and aerated like a sugar less meringue so when you add them to the mix you just want to gently "fold" them in not stirring anymore and deflating the aeration, but just enough that it is a mixture. A few big slow laps around the bowl usually do the trick.

I don't actively collect them and some are kind of like the cheapest things you can throw together for a potluck and kind of bleh, some a real insight into the regional immigrant cooking, but there are some really good ones in my handmedown collection.

Skysteppers was the "wive's" club of Delta Pilots once upon a time, when they all hung out, traveled together on their passes and forced early retirements at 60, and the ladies were something like Junior League, part charitable but mostly social gathering stuff like playing bridge and dressing up, generally a full season of this or that parties to do together, from tennis to holiday parties. I'm going to say these contain some very nice recipes, some of which I cook today.

My other grandmother was naturally good at all of her cooking and she was quite thrifty, growing up in Depression poverty to a widow of 6 girls. She maintained her no nonsense even when she was financially well off in her later years. A few years past I stumbled upon Depression Cooking with Clara on youtube (96 yr old) and felt like she was a similar soul as this grandmother. Clara has cheap pans, and lots of stories during her recipe walk throughs. Cozy as real time with Grandma. Enjoy!

Gonna make a real gay post real quick
It's really heartwarming seeing people post these, this is exactly what the people who submitted them to these cookbooks would have hoped for. Seeing the name attached to it makes me imagine my grandma or great-aunt with all their friends baking at church for fellowship hour after the sermon
Anyway, neat

Not as cheap as you think, this Babylon 5 cookbook cost a pretty penny and the faggot seller tried to rip me off but I made so many complaints on Amazon that he finally sent it.
That was about two years ago and I'll still make complaints about that faggot for the fun of it.
