Hot sauces don't always/even usually include tomato (usually some alliate spices, pepper (including paprika), salt vinegar, and maybe some carrot or fruit depending on the sauce), and buffalo sauce is - in it's simplest form - Franks and butter.

Original Buffalo sauce from The Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY: Frank's RedHot, Parkay Squeeze Margarine, a tiny amount of ketchup, and various amounts of cayenne pepper for heat.
That's the OG recipe anyway.

I work in retail, especially around dairy and lunch meat. I automatically default to hot dogs whenever I see the word franks now
