a 20 dollar cast iron is going to be the same as a 300 one.

It is literally just 5 pounds of melted raw iron poured into a mold.

Triple the price of raw iron to include cost of production, the 30 30 30 % rule in retail, and that is your baseline price. ANything higher are cucking you.

It's not raw iron dumby. Raw iron is is pig iron, useless. It needs to be refined a bit so it will be stable and able to be thrown into a cast.

Le Creuset has been around for over a hundred years, they have lasted that long for a reason. I have OPs pic related and a smaller one. I also have a larger shallow Staub.

All of them are great and worth it, just don't be a retard and clean them properly and not burn stuff in them.

I have both the cheap Tesco and le cruset enamelware. It is true, the quality of the enameling process is far better from le cruset. My family still has some back from the 80s that are in great condition but get used a few times a week. It's possible to pick these up at charity shops for about a tenner. Cheap enamelware can be a haphazard investment; some break in a year with cracking and chips; some last. I will say; le cruset never used to be this expensive but it's a sign of the times.

THere are many different tupes of cast iron, and differences within those cast iron types.
Iron may also be made out of vurgin iron ore or out of recycled iron or the combination of the two, and the recycled iron if used might simply be recled from the production process or recycled post consumer iron, which may have unpleasant impurities in it.
Le Creuset is also enameled, and one of the original founders of Le Creuset was actually an enamelling engineer.
The enamel has to be formulated to handle hundreds if not thousands of heating and cooling cycles, along with a number of other variables.
Each separate color, or color combination, has to be individually formulated and tested.
Once all the above are formulated and tested, things get way easier, but it’s not a simple process to make top of the line enameled cast iron cookware.
