I live in an area with a lot of meat packing plants and kill floors and it is one of the few jobs that poorly educated people, be they first and second generation immigrants or poor white trash can get that pays enough to put a roof over their heads and a better life for there own kids. In spirit it certainly wasn't conservative or respecting personal freedom, so it wasn't right wing in any meaningful way except the association with religion.
