Thoughts on shellfish? Also, please describe the taste of the following
>lobsters
>crabs
>shrimps
>crayfish
>crawdads
>prawns

>> No.12666566

lobster is my favorite shellfish, its buttery and succulent and extremely rich. Crab is also very good but its a bit more bold of a taste than lobster. It has a similar taste in some aspects but lobster is creamier and more flavorful.
Shrimp is mid tier IMO, I like it alot but its nothing special. Kinda fishy tasting, and it seems like shrimp is more often just used as a vehicle for batter or dipping sauce. Dont have much experience with prawns, but they taste very similar to shrimp. Never eating crayfish, crawdads is just another word for crayfish

Is shrimp the most fishy?

of the shellfish I have tried I would say prawns were the most fishy, but damn near tied with shrimp on fishiness. Lobster and crab have no fishy taste to me, but Im also an avid seafood fan so maybe I am not super sensitive to fishy tastes

Prawns aren't fishy unless you eat bad ones. Honestly I can barely taste any difference between prawn and lobster but lobster is obviously much more tender

ok so do you mean taste strictly? because we only have five tastes, and so much more of the essense of those meats comes through in terms of smell and texture which combine with taste to make flavor... but i shall try

1. lobster: slightly bitter
2. crabs: slightly sweet
3. shrimps: nearly nothing at all
4. crayfish: similar to shrimp
5. crawdads: similar to shrimp
6. prawns: similar to shrimp

as for the smell/flavor, there is no way of describing that and you must experience it for yourself. all i can tell you is, with the exception of crab, all the animals you listed there are more or less the same thing at different sizes and therefore have a similar flavor (but with varying intensity).

crabs taste slightly sweet, and have a different overall flavor than any of the other on the list.

>buttery and succulent and extremely rich.

lobster has almost no fat and is one of the leanest existing meats. it is not buttery or rich or succulent at all. if you drown it in butter, then sure.

Enjoy it while you can. Climate change is going to ruin it for generations to come.

If you live on the coast, then look into catching crabs in your area. Nothing, and I mean nothing, tastes better than crab you caught at 7am and cooked later that day.

shrimps - easiest to eat and good enough
lobster - kinda of larger 'bitter' than shrimps more meat a bit overrated
prawns - cross between shrimps/lobsters
crab - the best but also kind of annoying to eat, least 'meaty' chunk

I love seafood and shellfish. Also I generally don't like dipping them in butter or any other sauce.

>lobster: tender but often kind of rubbery due to poor cooking and mildly sweet and very savory
>crab: amazing in most ways
>shrimp: also great as long as you devein/EZ peel/butterfly them
>crayfish:never have eaten
>crawdads: also never have eaten
>prawns: I bet they are good but haven't eaten

prawns are not fishy at all imo, fresh prawns are sweet and meaty and tender when not overcooked

>>12666578
its not listed in OP's post, but if you ever have slipper lobster, this is the most fishy of all the shellfish Ive ever tried, this tastes like poverty ghetto lobster
