Bros how do you brew tea? Specifically using tea bags. I can never get the flavor to come through well, it just tastes like hot water with a teeny bit of something else in it
I've used several different brands and kinds of tea bags, if that matters

Loose leaf tea is expensive and I dont know what kind I'd like since all the tea I make tastes like water
Does loose leaf make that big of a difference? How do you brew it properly?
And for my most stupid question: Can I just rip open a tea bag?

amazon sells lipton green tea $3.50 for 40 bags with each bag containing roughly 2.5g of tea coming out to 100g of tea
the local asian market sells 100g of japanese green tea for $5.99
its not that much more expensive but the difference between the two is incredible

either way with a tea bag the same with all tea just make sure youre using enough tea and that the water temperature is the right temperature and youre taking the bag out when you need to

a good starting point is 2g per 6oz of water
for white and green tea 175f for 2-3 minutes is what i normally do but 3-4 might be a bit better if using bags
black tea 195f for 4-5 minutes but using bags maybe a tad longer like 5-6 minutes
herbal tea doesnt contain actual tea leaves so no tannins get released so you can just boil that shit for like 5 minutes

pure black in paper bags, have to watch time, max up to 15min
black in pyramids, up to +30min
black with flavoring in pyramids, up to 1h
all green tea as long as you want, sometimes leave it overnight, gets somehow different stronger and still great taste.

Yorkshire Tea is popular because it's cheap; it's a shit brand, my American friend. Buy Twinings if you want something acceptable. Assam is clearly the best type of "English" style tea. At least you didn't rec Ceylon.

>I can never get the flavor to come through well, it just tastes like hot water with a teeny bit of something else in it
with bags, I got used to brewing 3-4 bags at once. but that's only when I'm at work. at home I always steep loose leaf.
the kind of tea found in bags (fannings) helps release caffeine quicker but loses a lot of taste. even worse, bags that don't come sealed in airtight packet lose most aroma/flavor.
loose leaf is usually where the taste is at.

usually even basic brands will have way better loose leaf tea than bags. IMO for how cheap it is it's usually pretty good. like, a week ago I got a 100g of loose leaf Lipton black tea for around $1.20. for about the same price I would only get a pack of 25x2g bags, which also steep like shit.
