Just tried the Beyond Meat burger at Carl's/Hardee's. It was honestly pretty good.

You can definitely tell it's not beef, but there's the sauces and the veg that all come together to make it a satisfying burger.

Has anyone else tried it?

I tried the similar product from Qdoba. Same experience: obviously not meat, but tasty enough so I didn't care and will definitely try it again.

I haven't cooked it at home. Other than a couple products I like as their own thing I only really eat meat substitutes outside for curiosity's sake. I've had it at Freebirds burritos and Carl's jr and at a few people's places who made burgers and casserole out of it. To be honest I'm not a huge fan of beef either though so that probably has something to do with my not liking the texture. I'm also generally just not a fan of pea protein because of the kind of funky aftertaste it gives me.

On another note, I'm starting to believe that the future diet of America will incorporate less red meat. Maybe it's because I'm from a slightly more liberal area, but it seems like people are slowly becoming more conscientious about where the food they eat comes from

I mean products that are meant as meat substitutes but are good on their own like Field Roast sausages and Bob's textured vegetable protein that I think are as good or better than the average similar meat item or have some quality I like that makes them better than any other alternative. I don't consider tofu in general a meat substitute. It doesn't really have any relationship to meat unless you want it to and as much as I like it I rarely find anything satisfying made of it that's meant to imitate meat rather than just be good tofu.

It not being meat isn't a selling point to me. If I like it, I'll eat it.
