Japanese curry is just normal yellow Indian curry but more watery. Seriously, it's just potato, onions and carrots and tiny bit of beef in curry-water served over rice. I have no idea why people obsess over it so much.

I tried japanese curry yesterday. It was so underwhelming compared to indian and thai curries. It's just a beef stew with some roux and a tablespoon of curry powder in it. They don't even do the veggie right. Mushroom is far superior to potato in stews and casseroles.
