So, the coil in my oven FUCKING CAUGHT ON FIRE AND MELTED while I was broiling something.

Is this normal?
It's only six years old. WTF?

>> No.12534171

yeah its normal, just find what type coil (usually called an 'element') and then shut off the breakers to your kitchen or unplug the oven and replace the coil

Is that something they sell at Lowe's / local hardware store, or will it need to be ordered directly from the manufacturer?

lowes is your best bet, local hardware store might have it. if needed you might have to order it online but you wont need a direct from mfg replacement.

impurity can diffuse in the heating element while at high temperature and eventually it breaks

heating elements degrade pretty fast in a smoky environment. stop burning your food. clean your oven.

My oven coil snapped in half and it was easy to replace. Go to this website and enter your make and model# and they'll likely have it. They offer a 1 year return with full refund. I've ordered a bunch of parts from them, they're legit.

A small crack, or other defect could cause this.
Food splatters and other gunk can cause a hotspot and cause failure.
There is a local appliance repair and parts supplier where I live. I replaced the bottom element of my electric stove (I snapped it trying to clean under it). Undo 2 screws, unplug old one, plug in new one, reinstall screws. Done. Cost less than $20, I think.

It's not normal. You're going to have to replace the coil though. Either that or get a new oven.

>> No.12536789

just put some aluminium over it
once it starts heating again it will mekt and be all good again

>>12534167
shit happens
just get a replacement element, though depending on the oven it might be cheaper in the long run to just get another oven
