I think you might be getting confused by the OP picture. I think that picture was meant to show off the holding capacity. In reality it's not going to do ten customers at the same time. It's one compartment per customer. Your stuff isn't mixed in with someone else's stuff.

lol, holy shit the desperation. If it makes you idiots feel any better everyone's going to be made obsolete by automated solutions sooner or later. Human bodies aren't made out of magic and many of the tasks thought least likely to be automation-capable have already been figured out.
>inb4 just work as the guy who maintains / repairs automations
Let's say this repair guy position is somehow the exception and nobody ever figures out how to automate maintenance (pretty ridiculous and wrong, but for the sake of argument let's pretend it's true). OK, now everyone's out of work except you. How are you going to make money without any paying customers? Once automation gets above a certain percentage of labor even the people NOT out of work will still have a problem since the old fashioned model depends on lots of other people being employed so they can give their money to you in exchange for the services and products you're working to provide.
It'll be a problem for everyone. No need to try to make it an us vs. them deal.
Personally I'd rather see it happen quickly and get it over with than have it drag out over a very long transition period where unemployed people are stuck in limbo prior to the issue being addressed. A large problem that impacts everyone in the shorter term is more likely to result in workarounds that keep people from simply being termed and left without a way to take care of themselves.

Zero doubt autonomous vehicles will persist and expand massively in scope. The demand and potential profits for this are way, way too high for fucking vandalism of all things to be a serious limiting factor. Vandalism will exist. Theft will exist. And neither will matter anywhere near as much as a lot of you are imagining. Even the bare minimum lowest effort non-solution of eating the cost for damages as part of your business model would still be pretty fucking profitable. And chances are good there will be slightly higher effort ways implemented to keep those damage costs down.

You
>automation is going to replace everyone in the job market
retards are the worst. It's as if you have zero ability to formulate ideas beyond what is right in front of you.
Looking back throughout history we've heard this again and again. Manual labor replaced by machines on the farm. Single-person manufacturing being replaced by the assembly line.
The whole industrial revolution was ripe with this idea that a majority of people would be displaced from work and unemployment would skyrocket, leading to recessions and whatnot.
It didn't happen then, and it won't happen now.

Nobody came anywhere close to claiming every form of labor is already automated. Not sure where you're getting that from.
>mystical technology
I'm a software developer for process automation. Have been for about ten years now. It's not mystical. Every budget season companies want to find ways to reduce headcounts. That reference to *universal* automation is a reference to the future, not the present.
>What processes do you automate?
A lot more of the white collar / office pro esses (although we've done physical applications too, like cutting out astronomical expenses in field technician labor for businesses needing to handle getting cutomers functional following network sunsets like 2G in the past or 3G more recently). Finance / Accounting has come up a lot. A lot of roles in accounts receivable, accounts payable, collections, and all manner of "analyst roles" frequently involve directly automation capable tasks. In general if someone can explain how to do it to a new hire you can write a program that does it instead, with lots of businesses not having done so yet simoly because they're running around putting out shorter term fires. Workforce / call center operations come up too. You can overhaul a company's IVR / digital customer facing platforms to get rid of unnecessary bodies.
Interestingly a lot of *programming* roles can be automated even more readily than labor you might think is less complicated. So it's not like people in my line of work are any safer.

>Outside of potential recessions the unemployment rate will never go above 20%
I think I mentioned this a bit already, but part of the problems we'll need to address with where we're headed is that even a substantially higher but still much less than 100% unemployment rate could be a severe problem for the people still earning an income. Because our economic system as it is currently is predicated on the existence of consumrrs who can pay for goods and services. If half the people are no longer useful laborers the other half has a lot fewer people buying what they produce, so you're fucked either way.

The theft thing seems like such a non-issue to me. Realistically you can just roll out with minimal security and take the first couple of months more as data collection than an attempt to earn lots of money. If the damages are below some arbitrary small amount, you change nothing and you're done. And if damages exceed that amount the you start investing in more robust security.
I think the more critical people here are also overlooking how these businesses have plenty of time to make use of hybrod approaches while still learning what works and what doesn't. None of these things roll out on day 1 autonomous with zero human support. It's pretty low effort to just have a guy follow the drone around and intervene as needed.
I remember when I was in high school and working at a grocery store we were one of the first locations to try self-service kiosks. And I lucked out and got to switch from being a regular cashier to managing / maintaining the self-scan machines.
Now did it defeat the purpose of self-scan to have a worker paid to maintain and handle exceptions for it? Not at all. Because you could have 1 worked for 10 self-scan machines, and that's just 1 location. Scale up to 100 locations and you've now cut out an extremely large chunk of labor needs even though you're not fully autonomous.

That's how security / safety innovations get developed. You deploy a new technology, it runs into trouble, you assess the cost of the trouble, and if the cost is high enough you get your new safety features.
A favorite example of this I have is early X-Rays. You know how in cartoons (or with Blanka in Street Fighter) getting electrocuted makes your skeleton visible? Which is really weird because that definitely isn't what electricity does in real life, right?
Turns out the first X-Ray machines were super-dangerous and electrocuted a bunch of people to death. So the cultural association between your skeleton being visible and electricity comes from that.
Point being though nobody decided X-Ray machines weren't going to work even though they had that glaring flaw to them. People rolled them out anyway, other people were maimed and killed, and eventually fixes were added to the design so that today this doesn't happen anymore.

They're already having someone follow it around while they're in the trial period. So it'd be no trouble to deal with to begin with and they'd get plenty of information on how common something like that actually is. >Kind of shitty that you have to come up with all these security innovations because of a small percentage of the population that fucks things up for everybody.
You don't have to necessarily. It's actually very common for businesses to just come up with their damages figure, determine it isn't high enough to bother caring about, and move on.
Seems like there's a fixation with perfection among a lot of the people here that most businesses definitely don't get hung up on. Good business is knowing you're far from perfect and prioritizing resources towards your big gains and big losses while letting the details do as they will for as long as they remain below some general threshold of caring.

I remember when Canadian scientists/engineers created a hitch hiking robot to see how nice people are. It made it's way through all of Canada fine and then lasted abut 10 minutes when it got dropped off in Philly, it got completely fucking ruined the second it was taken there lmao

Don't know why people keep bringing the hitchbot up. It was a whimsical nonprofit little toy thing that was thrown together with minimal effort and basically zero functionality. Pretty different from an autonomous vehicle making money delivering food. Unlike with the hitchbot the people investing in the food delivery vehicle have an incentive to see how it does and actually expand on it if it's seriously getting torn apart and stolen from on a frequent enough basis to begin to outweigh what it's saving in future manpower.

>Attacking a living person is a lot riskier than attacking a pizza delivery robot.
Yeah, I know. But I was responding to the guy that said they would ambush the PERSON ordering the pizza. Anyway, to your point, it wouldn't be much different than breaking into an empty store at night. The car will most likely be equip with an assload of cameras and have an alarm if something goes wrong. Obviously this isn't foolproof, but neither is the security system in a store or a warehouse. You'd have to be a moron to risk going to jail for a few a pizzas.
