What's the weirdest thing you've seen somebody do with their food under the impression it's healthier?

My roommate insists on "doubly drying" all his pasta. He'll boil pasta in the morning, and just leave it sitting out all day until they get all stale and shriveled up, and then toss them back in the pot and boil them again and eat these tiny nasty mushy noodles he insists are healthier because doing it this way "boils out the sodium" and I have no fucking clue where he got that idea from but he's convinced he's figured out the secret to pasta.

I'm convinced at this point someone taught him how to cook noodles this way as a joke.

>> No.12411479

pasta, noodles?

pick one. pasta is pasta and noodles are noodles.

people who ever call pasta noodle should not be aloud to ever talk about food.

Every day with this fucking discussion. Noodles are NOT and never will be pasta.

He may have misinterpreted something he heard...

>You are probably familiar with the idea that pasta is a form of carbohydrate and like all carbohydrates it gets broken down in your guts and then absorbed as simple sugars, which in turn makes your blood glucose soar.

>But what if you could change pasta or potatoes into a food that, to the body, acts much more like fibre? Well, it seems you can. Cooking pasta and then cooling it down changes the structure of the pasta, turning it into something that is called "resistant starch".

>So, according to scientist Dr Denise Robertson, from the University of Surrey, if you cook and cool pasta down then your body will treat it much more like fibre, creating a smaller glucose peak and helping feed the good bacteria that reside down in your gut.

I don’t know if this qualifies but my mother refuses to let meat come anywhere close to room temperature before cooking because she’s convinced it will grow all kinds of bacteria and make everyone sick. She also refuses to let cooked meat cool down close to room temp beforehand putting it in the fridge for the same reason even though by covering hot meat and putting it in the fridge she’s creating condensation which is way better at growing bacteria.

My mom is an idiot.

You guys do realize that you are arguing over titles at this point, pasta is the original term and in Italy is used to refer to ALL PRODUCTS MADE FROM THOSE TYPES OF MATERIALS
now if you look at >>12411843
you will notice that they use the term "noodle products" to classify roughly the same group of products
now ofc because murricans are flaming retards they officially went and named an entire category of food after the original form of pasta the Asian noodle, simply put. chronologically:
Noodle > Pasta
generally known
Pasta => all type of pasta/noodle descending from Europe, mostly Italy
Noodle => Asian descendant type of pasta/noodle (which is often time made from rice flour or buckwheat flour like soba)
in short you are all flaming retards and should all go Mama mia yourselves
Inb4 noodles is also now used to refer to the spaghetti shaped type of pasta/noodle

I knew a guy that would take out a shitload of napkins whenever he had a slice of pizza and put it over the pizza to absorb whatever grease was on the pizza and he'd do this a few times to make sure there wasn't any grease left on the pizza (the napkins came up clean) at all. Every single time. Because all that grease is bad for you. lol

I knew a woman who would eat one bowl of flax seeds every day. She would go on and on that it's super healthy and so on.
When I told her that it's recommended not to eat more than 2 tablespoons every day because of the high cyanide levels in the seeds, she answered "well, it's natural cyanide, so it's healthy."

I bet you guys get diarrhea a lot.

By putting hot food directly into the fridge, you create a discrepancy where the outside of the food gets colder quicker than the inside of the food. This danger zone of middling temperature breeds bacteria like gangbusters.
