My friends at work (bay area tech company) are all ranting and raving about replacing animal proteins with insects instead and I wanted to know what you guys thought about it. In theory, something like mealworm has a 1:1 protein ratio and a similar amino acid profile so on paper it is absolutely no different and you have nothing to worry about. It's also cheaper, more ethical, and limits green house emissions.

Anyways, I am going to try it. What insect/recipe recommendations do you guys have?

I usually have no problem eating bugs if the spikes and thorns are removed, so far I've tried crickets and beetles and both of these have parts that cling on to the inside of your throat.

It's cheaper when you don't process them. Processing them into something that doesn't taste like the little popcorn kernel skins mixed with old peanuts is the problem and will raise costs of production. It's cheaper in the sense that it requires less room to grow bugs. You can make 1000s of lbs of them in a warehouse without the cost of land, water, food that comes with livestock. Also you don't have to treat bugs with even the minimum cruelty regulations. So of course there's lots of silicon valley dickheads wanting to invest in it. They can grow more food, in smaller spaces, for cheaper and make out like a bandit. SV also produced schemes like Uber, which is only still around because celebrities and billionaires pour enough money into it. They're trying to make it illegal for anyone but them to operate as a taxi service, and being a monopoly is the only way they can actually turn a profit. It'll be the same kind of shit with bug food. Next they'll start trying to outlaw livestock and force people to buy bugfood for a protein source. The irony being that most people in that situation would just go vegan rather than eat bugs. So they'll start shitting on soy next even though they all love it now. I wouldn't trust an idea out of Silicon Valley. Everything they have produced has been turned into a weapon against normal people and common sense.

I bought some cricket flour, but I haven't used it yet. I don't mind the idea of eating bugs, but I have a hard time with thinking about their little sharp legs in my mouth, so I'm starting with insect flours and things like that. Although, I've eaten raw, live shrimp that were still moving around at sushi places, though, so I shouldn't be so squeamish. Western culture just isn't used to it, that's all. Why is this? Lobster and crabs are technically the same hard-shelled no-spine animals as crickets or grasshoppers but people feel like one is acceptable but the other isn't.
