>income doesn't justify me knowing enough about whiskey

The alcohol in a typical beer is roughly equivalent to the alcohol in a typical ounce of whisky. An American shot is 1.5 ounces, so that's 1.5 beers worth of alcohol per shot. A 750 ml bottle of 40% APV whiskey has ~16.9 shots, which equals ~25.4 beers. That means a fifth is roughly equivalent to a 24 pack, and the prices of both are comparable. If you can afford beer, you can afford whiskey.

Also...way fewer carbs with whiskey, so it's ideal if you're trying to lose weight, but still want to drink.

I know about beer and drink beer pretty often, but sure as shit not anything that comes in a 24 pack. Why would you do that to yourself? I literally couldn't choke down something like natty or whatever fast enough to even maintain a light buzz.

You don't drink that all at once. You keep it in your fridge and drink it over the course of several weeks. The reason you buy them in 24 packs is because it's a cheaper price per beer.

depends really.

Jack is pretty trashy whisky honestly, but if you use it as a mixer then there"s no point in getting something fancier.

if you want a safe and very nice bourbon, try four roses single barrel or eagle rare.

for rye, high west double rye or lot 40.

Rye is spicier while bourbon is sweeter, both have their fans and detractors.

Sotch might not be your wheelhouse right now as it is a massive departure from your jack-tempered palate, but Tomatin 12 is a great sherried scotch for a lower price. If peat is something you'd like to try, give monkey shoulder a shot. In full disclosure I've never tried MS but it's often brought up as a good starter scotch.

Japanese whisky is a bit pricy, but you can get a bottle of toki for about 35, or harmony for a bit more. if you want to weeb out try kikori, which is distilled from rice. def a unique flavor.

Drink enough sherried scotches and you'll encounter a sulfur bomb eventually. I'm cheap so I pretty much only drink WT101, Ardbeg 10, Glenmorangie 10.
If I feel like spending a little more, I'll get four roses single barrel, and a nicer ardbeg or laphroaig. Wife's cousin gave us a bottle of Talisker dark storm they picked up in an airport while they were abroad.
Not a big highland & speyside drinker. I like them, just not enough to buy often.
Bought a bottle of uigedail recently, have only had 2 pours, breddy gud.
uhhh what else... found a bunch of EH taylor small batch at a small local store, bought a couple bottles of it. Great bourbon, wish it was easier to find in my city. Oh and I found a bottle of McKenna 10yr bib at total wine last week. Going to save it for when I have company (>implying). hope it's a good barrel.
