I think people that love premium coffee and claim to be experts are like people that claim to know the difference between a $10 bottle of wine and a $100 bottle of wine, they're full of shit. I've made people coffee with old, year+ old random coffee beans I got through work and they've told me that was some of the best coffee they've had just because I ground the beans right there with a grinder that I never clean or wash and French pressed it. I drink coffee fairly regularly and have never thought that a cup of diner coffee was any less good than one from a hipster coffee shop that is like an actual home with all these different rooms and activities.

With that said, it's a very useful drug.

Absolute bullshit, if you'd said that between $200 to $1000, or even higher, that there's not enough of a noticeable difference that might have been a respectable view, but there's a very noticeable quality gap between $10 wine and $100 wine that even normies can pick up on. Just because you've blown out your tastebuds on processed garbage with the flavor subtlety of a sour head to the point where can't tell the taste of your own shit from a real cup of coffee doesn't mean that others can't.

It will give you terrible sleep, probably make you wake up after half an hour.
But, as a midday nap thing, it's perfect. Go to sleep after a hot drink, in half an hour the caffeine kicks in and brings you to physical arousal, you wake up naturally refreshed and not groggy, go back to work.
It's actually medically recommended if you get very drowsy around midday.

I started drinking coffee just this past year. French press. light roasts. with salt and honey. Had more headaches and stomach aches early on, but now I love it.
Has anyone tried super-light roasts that are not widely available? Like where it's not even brown yet. I'm curious about the increased potency and tasting more of the natural flavor of the beans.
What do people think about french press or other less-filtered methods and increasing your dosage of cafestol? Should I be worried about developing high LDL cholesterol?

I had one of these and the only advantage of it was that it ground pretty efficiently to how many turns you used and could hold a lot. The consistency of the grind is awful and all over the place and it's a massive hassle to change settings.

The Javapresse is cheaper, has a far more consistent grind, and is easier to change settings on and has a wider range of them.

Coffee is a bit different than wine. For one, the easiest thing to pick up on is how roasted it is. The more roasted, the more likely it's shit tier coffee. Roasting overpowers the natural flavor and so this is a way around a bad natural flavor.

But I can see normies being stupid and missing this. I'm no coffee expert, but I was made a cup of pricey coffee once and was told only after the fact. I commented on how good it tasted before knowing. If I can pick up on it with my dumb palette that has never rejected anything, surely others can too.

After a lifetime of drinking 4 espresso cups a day, I have been without coffee for a week. Results have been interesting thus far.
>Pros
-There's this odd feeling of "Restfulness" at the back of my head/neck/shoulders. Very refreshing and a little "comfy" without the usual trappings of comfort. It's like I tapped into the universal oneness of comfy and am comfy regardless of situation, even if just a little.
-It's been harder to binge watch shit at night, good for people who aren't neets?
-Cummies are consistently thicc
Cons
-Mornings are fucking hell
-Even less motivation than usual
-Random pangs of migraine, feels like something is pulling my brain from the inside. On a 1-10 scale, 8 being untreated cavities, I'd have to rate it a 2-4
-Miss the taste
I guess some people have the discipline/joie de vivre necessary to get out of bed every day without hassle but, for me, I kind of need a stimulant to kind of work kind of right. It's less and addiction and more of a commodity to make this bitch of a life bearable for me. Still, I feel like I understand a little bit better this zen-like emptiness comfy of comfort without a chair now.

Lever machines give you total control over the shot pull, most standard semi autos give you a flat pressure curve but with a lever you can alter the amount of pressure exerted on the puck throughout, like if you want to really emphasize the sour notes you would exert more pressure at the start and slowly taper off. I'm not autistic enough to understand how pressure profiling actually impacts taste but that's the advantage these machines offer. A lot of higher end machines like slayer/LM/synesso offer paddles or programming to control temp/pressure/flow curves. For the most part I think people just enjoy la pavonis because of their history and aesthetic and hobby factor, because they are still finicky and require a lot of technique and knowledge to actually get the most out of them

Thanks, was curious. I know La Pavoni has a history close to the roots of espresso but was wondering the technical details. I would never fall into that level of coffee making. I'm happy with a vanilla "prosumer" Silvia I've had for many years. Beautiful machines though.

I've always wanted a home espresso machine but when I started to research I realized I would never be satisfied with an SBDU because of their cooldown times and the steam lag, even the $1500 HX/DB were somewhat appealing but then when I factor in the grinder I realize this is such an unobtainable dream for now. If I had $3k to blow I would be looking into the Decent Espresso machines and probably an OE Pharos or better electric grinder, but I'm happy with the coffee I make now, I'd honestly rather open an entire cafe than invest that much into equipment for just myself.

So this dude was having a checkup with his doctor, and found out he had a heart murmur and illragular heart beats due to such a high intake of caffeene for years. But the doc told him NOT to quit because doing so could be even more damaging to his heart (like a hard cut of for a heroin addict) and to only ween 1 cup away from his regular intake every month... Classic is $25 for two of same bags of coffee, you can set the interval from 2-8 weeks, and if you order a bag within 15 days you get a shipment it's free shipping. For what it is, it's not terribly priced in my shit opinion.

Well they have two versions. Classic you get two of the same for flat $25 a month at whatever interval you set OR the other one they have called the hook up is where you get one at whatever interval you set and you pay somewhere between I think $15 to $22 for one single bag, free shipping.

For me since I'm so nee to it I'm fine with paying the classic and then using my free shipping credit to pick out a special bag they recommend. $35 for almost two months worth of coffee works for me.

Just starting to research this hobby. Whew, it's a lot more autistic than I expected. The first thing I need to get is a grinder, right? I was thinking the Encore burr grinder. Is this a decent one? >> No.12226758

Encore is the baseline standard, you can buy a virtuoso burrset and install it to improve the grind. Manual grinders offer you higher quality burrset sat a lower relative cost because you aren't paying for electronics, and they tend to last longer. I recommend a LIDO E or one of their competitors because for $200 you can hit all grind sizes from Turkish to coarse, with infinite adjustable steps. For reference, most electric espresso grinders will run you $600+ so imo it's the best option to just go high end manual if you plan on upgrading your setup down the line

I roast my beans immediately before brewing and let them sit for an hour before it even touches water.

Doing it any other way is basically drinking folgers piss coffee.

I only source my beans from organic farms that sell directly to individual roasters and grow in altitudes between 1200-1250 meters.

Of course I only use a Comandanter C40 to grind to perfection and I use my Japanese handcrafted pour over set that was artisan made from rare Okinawan blue clay for the coffee dripper and a glass server made of a mixture of Okinawan and Hawaiian sands.

Arguably the most important factor is the filter paper.

I personally prefer paper sourced from Bristlecone pine that are at least 1000 years old.

Finally, I brew the perfect 1:12 cup with my Damascus Steel gooseneck kettle heated perfectly to 88.2 C.

Genuine question, does using ceramic actually change the body that much in comparison to plastic drippers? I suppose temperature disruptions could occur, but couldn't you just pre-heat the ceramic and prevent the issue altogether. Or is there some issue with the shaping of the ceramic itself that produces the body change, in which case, maybe a custom dripper would help? Then again, you could just use the plastic and risk cancer 50 years down the line. Holy shit, coffee is pretentious

IDK I just started using it daily a week ago and I'm still getting used to it. It's true what they say it's by far the most sensitive brew method. But I've found you can adjust your usage of it to bring out more or less body ie: big pours = faster draw down = less body/brighter cup, smaller pours but more of them = longer brew time = more body/less bright.

If your question was about the ceramic in particular I think it's more a trait of the device itself than the materials. The hole is bigger than other pourovers which is apparently what makes it so finicky/unique. Personally I just wanted to get away from plastics.
