can i just go eat without everyplace having some sort of demeaning policy for its employees??
i cant help but empathize with the employees and the embarrassment they feel being forced to say this awful crap 100s of times a day why do they hate their employees? why do i even care, is there hope for me? I really wanted a burrito.

I hate this shit, but moreso because when I'm shopping or getting a quick bite, I don't like being put on the spot. I want to get my shit and leave with minimal interaction with others. I'm not socially awkward at all, but being out and away from the house is my personal think time and I don't need some faggy corporate ditzs decision to ruin that by having employees single me out by shouting greetings at me. I've never been to Moes, but thank you OP for telling me this because now I will never subject myself to it.

lmao you must be a real piece of shit personality, upselling notwithstanding, if you just show up every day no more than 10 minutes late and do a basically mediocre job while being generally nice, you'll keep most serving gigs at least as the shift filler.
If you've been fired from multiple serving jobs, you are a really shitty person inside and out. This industry harbors only the functional dregs.

Corporate restaurants and their managers stand for the company's values and while their methods aren't always great, you will not run into trouble with them if you are a fair to middling employee.
Diligence, integrity, and honesty are key traits in good employees and good management trained in good restaurants know when to let go the shitheels who want to take for themselves while doing the least amount of work.

P.S. Where I work, we don't have ranch. We don't have Bud Light or Tabasco. The secret to success in the industry is to not be an ignorant and uncivil piece of shit and to work in a nice place where educated rich people drop hundreds of dollars on wine and tip alone.

Waiting can be a career, but again, you're only thinking of chain restaurants and cheap grub shacks. There's plenty of restaurants in the world where servers make a great annual income with benefits, and I work somewhere like that. We sell bottles of wine from the 90s and early 00s that cost more than a server at Longhorn Steakhouse can make in sales over a few days. I'm not just a server who brings food and says "hun" and walks away never to be seen, but an agent of hospitality. I get to make people's evenings special, I get to go above and beyond to get them whatever they need to have a great night they'll not forget. My primary job is just to hang out with people who are eating and make their evenings great. My secondary job is to harbor an immense knowledge of fine wine and cuisine so I can explain and recommend food and drink for a guest's particular palate.
Making several grand a month to basically host dinner party guests and drink a lot of wine is a pretty great career to me. Stay salty.

I quit after 3 months. it was the worst job I ever had. I really feel for the grocery store workers now. I had to deal with the worst fucking horrible cunts, and my manager kept telling me to smile and greet customers which I never did because I would look like a serial murderer if I smiled.
>old russian ladies that want free shit all the time

this guy was like a stereotype youd see on /pol/ and he talked that was too. I was just floored by this guy.

It's not like NYC data is excluded. NYC is a massive city with heavy representation in that data set in fact. Also of course everyone makes more money in that city. That has nothing to do with being an actual top performer and everything to do with the cost of living. $30,000 in Wisconsin is $60,000 in New York. That's a conversion rate, not something to be proud of.

So if you commute 40 minutes, have a roommate, and reduce your rent down to something almost like a normal non-NY region's going rate you only get fucked over by the comparatively much higher cost of food and groceries, electricity, water, natural gas, and other utilities, gasoline, car insurance, car maintenance, and/or average mass transit fare, clothing, entertainment, and all other goods and services, plus much higher state and local taxes which have just this year been capped at a much lower maximum amount allowed for federal deduction.
If you took down all these expenses and then saw how little the rest of the country is paying for the same (or *not* paying at all, as is the case for state and local taxes which are completely nonexistent in plenty of other regions in the US) you might just find yourself a bit disappointed.

It only sounds stupid if you don't understand the context. *I* didn't believe there wasn't a cost of living difference based on it being Oklahoma. The anon I was responding to claimed $500 got you the same shoebox apartment regardless of if was New York or not. Here, this is the context:

At which point you jumped in and said "Ok but its oklahoma" when that was the ENTIRE POINT of bringing it up in the first place. It's not stupid for me to bring up an example of a non-shit apartment for $500 in Oklahoma when it's in response to someone claiming the apartments outside of New York are all shit at $500.
