Making a grilled cheese or grilled ham n cheese, whatever.
Butter vs mayo on the bread?
Butter:
>better for you but has to be room temp to spread
>tastes better
Mayo:
>easier to spread right out the fridge
>doesn't taste as good
>may not make as crispy a sandwich (need more testing)
Also I just found out I have one of these bad boys, anyone ever used one? I always made my grilled sandwiches on a frying pan.

>heat pan
>add butter
>add sandwich
>push sandwich to side
>add butter
>flip sandwich on new butter
>???
>profit

Butter doesn’t go bad, it preserves itself naturally. I always have mine out on the counter in a butter dish, it’s got a cover mind you

that or use enough butter that the first side doesn't absorb it all.

i usually cut two pats of butter. melt one in the pan before you put the sandwich in and put the other one on top of the sandwich so that it ends up in the pan when you flip it. slide the sandwich around the pan a couple times after the flip to get good butter coverage.

Don’t feel bad, according to logic, you wouldn’t leave Dairy products out in the counter very long. But butter is special

Instead of butter; on the outside. It does the trick since it's basically just oil and fat

Only keep your excess butter in the fridge, leave the stick you're using on your counter, dumb dumb. Cover it with a butter dish.

Try making spreadable butter (1 cup of room temp butter, do NOT try to quick-soften it in any way, 1/4 cup of olive oil, a little salt, beat until smooth)
or you can try using shortening/lard
>>12125009
slice a pat of butter, put it on the top of the sandwich, put a lid on the pan so when you're ready to flip, the button on top has melted

I use bacon fat in the press. spread a little butter on the bread, a divided spoon of fat in the wells, a small smear of fat on top then close it up to cook. dont add to much stuffing or it will leak out. also always better to leave in a bit longer to brown and crisp. my wife's kids love pressed sandwiches.

Update, I used room temperature butter, ham and cheese. The bread got golden brown and the cheese melted but the ham wasn't hot-hot, just warm-hot. Maybe I should use a lower temperature?
