>Zakuski
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zakuski

I found an old Russian cookbook thrifting in my 20s and really liked the idea of drinking hard liquor during a meal. Make of few of these dishes and get a decent bottle of vodka (price doesn't always mean better). From what I've read you start with a shot first then follow with food so you don't wash away the flavor of the food with vodka. It's actually quite nice to have some of my friends over to chat, drink, eat zakuski, and smoke some joints. You all are probably not sophisticated for something like a zakuski social gathering.

Also this is my preferred brand of vodka served semichilled. You can find stolichnaya almost anywhere now for cheap.

Wtf are you talking about, slav food in general is amazing comfort food. Even weird stuff like shuba tastes great.

It’s one of my favorite things about being in Ukraine, comfy food everywhere. Meanwhile in the states it’s like 90% meme overpriced hipster shit

Stoli if great. Better than grey goose and on par with russian standard but sans hideous bottle.

That's not true some brands use filler such as glycol. https://www.mulondon.com/blog/propylene_glycol_vodka/

Sorry it's been so long since I've read it, but I remember it having an old school cookbook cover like these. Plus I'm sure these all have great recipes. Also my father spoke Russian so I had him translate the recipes, the books were in Cyrillic.
