Because physics won't teach you how to pair flavours or how long to cook specific ingredients and other practical applications of knowledge. Chemistry is far more helpful for cooking.

Because cooking isn’t physics, it’s passion, training, experience and intuition.
Physics plays its part but if you don’t have at least one or two of the above, it’s useless in the quest to become a great cook.

You’re what me and my dad refer to as a really stupid smart person. Basically you are book smart and can absorb knowledge easily and understand it but a lot of everyday life activities that everyone else is good at your are completely inept at. These can include cooking, dealing with social situations, not being an aspie, screwing in a lightbulb, and in general working with your hands. You know normal shit.

Most cooking is just following directions, dude. Some things require decent timing and a watchful eye, like making candy, or not letting the egg yolks curdle in bearnaise sauce, but it just takes a little bit of practice not to fuck everything up. Honestly, you should be cooking every day. It's a basic life skill.

>could probably work private sector if I had to

>>11969020

Dude, you don't take on debt for a PhD. Once you're at that level, the university pays you, not the other way around.

>>11969588

You use equal parts rice and water. Put the water in the pot, wait until it starts bubbling, then add the rice. Leave it there for maybe a minute or two until the rice absorbs all the water.

White rice on its own tastes like garbage. What I do is I'll mix in some yellow curry powder, salt, pepper, and tarragon, and then fry the whole thing in butter after boiling it. Tastes amazing.

Take it from a physics Ph.D. who actually can cook: it only has to do with physics when you're explaining concepts of thermodynamics to your students. (I also find that bringing in an application of these...thermodynamics...for the students to sample helps a lot.)
Otherwise it's applied physics. Sports are applied physics, too, mostly Newtonian motion. But you have to practice that particular application to be good.
Good luck though, practice enough and you'll get better!

you can't even cook rice properly you imbecile, stop giving advice. the rice is never thrown into boiling water, rather they're slowly heated together til boiling point, then reduced to a slow simmer.

Curry powder in rice sounds fucking asinine and overpowering, try a cardamom pod, some rice vinegar or saffron you pleb.

>white rice taste bad!!

Imagine being this much of a tastelet

>> No.11970036

You're good at calculations and logical thinking in the realm of physics.

In the realm of cooking you only extract knowledge and logical thinking by cooking and understanding the physics of the specific ingredients that you cook, no two chicken breasts are physically identical, no popcorn kernel is physically identical, you don't know the physics of cooking.
