I'm visiting Germany in March, staying for two weeks in Rheine-Palatinat region, some 70 km from Frankfurt. Any sugestions about locall food/places to visit?

yes, i am actually from there:

the typical beer there is called kölsch it's basically very light tasting ale. there are several manufacturers, the biggest and most boring one being früh kölsch, most people prefer gaffel kölsch or reissdorf kölsch.

eating. what you really should try are two things one is rheinischer Sauerbraten, served with potatodumplings (klösse) and red cabbage. also you should try another specialty called "himmel un ääd" (heaven and earth" which is fried blood sausage, potatoes and appels. another thing i can recommend is "düppekoochen" which is a basically a big dumpling bacon and onions. the last thing are "rivekooche" / Reibekuchen with Applesauce , the germa Version of hashbrowns. i hope that helps.

That's where the Pennsylvania Dutch are supposed to be from, the masters of desserts.
I don't have an actual answer, but I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Dutch is the english pronounciation of Deutsch. The pennsylvania Duch migrated to America when all continental germanics were collectively called Dutch.

Not mentioning Äbbelwoi.
I lived in Germersheim while studying there for a long while. Really comfy desu.
If you want to experience a small German town, check it out. It's near Mannheim and Karlsruhe along the Rhine.
Also, you can't go wrong with a good schnitzel and Kartoffelsalat. And they're all good.

What the actual fuck? 70km from Frankfurt in the direction of Cologne gets you about to Koblenz, at most. That is wine country. Not Kölsch, not beer, not cider, not äbblewoi but Riesling wine. Same to the south and south-west of Frankfurt. Every other direction is out of Rhineland-Palatinate. You uncultured swine.

NEIN NEIN NEIN! Had this once after drinking myself to near doom at a colleagues farewell party and still I was able to taste that nasty stuff. Didn't finish it. Seriously, what are you lower saxons thinking? Stick to your bloody farming equipment and leave the beer to the far north and far south of germany.
