Love it and wish it was easier to find in the US. I used to be able to find a few Dutch brands in a specialty food store, but they stopped carrying it. Most likely because I was the only one buying it.

I wish it was more available in the US, or at least importing the legit stuff was cheaper
licorice itself is very much an acquired taste, so adding what basically amounts to smelling salts to it is even more off-putting for many
so don't fault anyone for not liking it, just try to bring them around

I always liked licorice, but found most of the stuff sold here to be bland and lacking in licorice flavor. Through reading and speaking to people online I discovered that the licorice popular in northern Europe is much more intense.

I always like licorice, then i went to a european importer/deli place and saw weird licorice things, i.e. salty licorice
I tried it, hated it and tried to figure out what the actual fuck i just ate. after research, i figured i should try it again, and i went back and bought several different brands the store carried of salt licorice. once i ate enough of it, it stopped being repulsive and i started to appreciate the ammoniated tinge and flavor.

I found it in a store and liked it on the first try, although I think the varieties available were on the milder end of salty licorice. I've always wanted to try Finnish salmiakki, but I doubt there's any stores that stock it. One of these days I'll just buy a bunch of it off Amazon.

"salt licorice" is just licorice with a lot of salt in it. normal table salt.

Salmiak aka salmakki contains ammonium cloride too. (salmiak is a bastardization of the term "Sal ammoniac", the old fashioned chemical name for ammonium chloride).
