Seriously though, I know that in China they don't have these. You go to the store, you buy a slab of "beef" and it's really heavy. But then you take it home and you heat it, and allllllllll this water comes out and what used to be a big ol SLAB o beef is now just a wee little wrinkly wiry chewy shoe sole. Boy are we lucky to have real beef here in the states.

"Stone fruits" are best fruits.

Has anybody ever been to Puerto Rico and tried their unique fruit called a "Canepa" ? They're delicious and they grow everywhere. You can literally walk down a random street and find them either on a tree or for sale by a little grandma at a stall. They remind me of lychees, but they're more sour and the flesh to seed ratio is different. The taste and texture is kinda firm but gummy once you start to work the fruit off the seed with your teeth.

If I lived down there, I'd have a whole orchard of these things and eat, breathe, poo canepas for the rest of my life.

Many people take for granted all the berries you can find in the PNW that you can't anywhere else. One is the blackcap berry, which superficially resembles blackberries, but has a flavor more like black currant, but is really something entirely distinct to itself (not like a regular red raspberry either). They're also a bit more fleshy and chewy than other berries.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubus_occidentalis
Similarly, other Vaccinium species besides blueberries are also distinct from one another, with my favorite being huckleberries. You usually find them growing wild on mountain hikes where I vacation in Oregon. You have to really search for people selling them commercially even where they grow well, so they're a real treat.

Had it from a street vendor while traveling in Indonesia. They had plastic gloves for you to be able to eat it with your fingers. It smells like extremely rotten fruit. When you chew it, it's somewhat slimy and very soft. Almost like a firm-ish custard. The smell assaults your nose, but it's quite sweet.

Do not DO NOT let it touch your lips or pick it up with your bare fingers. The smell it leaves literally, unironically smells like sewage/garbage and it does not come off for a day or so even if washed with soap. Don't act like a tough guy. There's a reason why there are countries in SEA that ban you from carrying it in public transit and taxis.

smells abit like petrol, gym socks and alcohol

tastes very complex, sweet and very rich with a bitter undertone. Some varieties also have hints of alcohol.

If orgasmic dark chocolate were a sweet custard, this would be it.

Its amazing. Most fruits are pretty one note in how they taste, but for durian its a cacophony in your mouth. After a few instances getting used to it you will likely love it as many do.
