Never in my life have I tasted a food as delicious as poke. God mother fucking damn, it's amazing. I had it last week and can't stop thinking about it.

What do you get in your bowls, co/ck/s?

No not at all. Is this a rich person food? My food was $15 but I got a drink too.

When will mainlanders learn?

Generally fresh fish (like tuna or salmon, vs tilapia or catfish) is rather pricey and these items tend to a) offer a small amount of fish that isn't filling or b) be expensive

it totally depends on location, but you're right. I'm certain that poke would be a staple food worldwide if it were cheaper and more accessible.

Mainlanders just don't have access, yo.

Sesame seeds, poppy seeds, horse radish mayo, soy beans, loads of green onion, fatty salmon, seaweed, rice, roe.

There is a great place in the SF valley called "Enjoy". Check it out.

This. So much this. They should just make a new name for it cause it isn't poke. Pic related. Actual poke and sashimi

>> No.11871846

It's marinated, you're a snob.
>>11871732
That's not right. I don't agree with other anons list totally (horseradish mayo? I have doubts), but the inclusion of onion, pineapple, roe, kimchi, tomato, cucumber and other ingredients(not all at the same time) in addition to the common ingredients has only improved poke. Poke isn't even that old to Hawaii.

>> No.11871854

I love poke, man. I enjoy most seafood, whether it's fried, broiled, or raw, but I find that I can only have a few pieces of sashimi before I get tired of the taste. Poke, though? I could eat that lunch and dinner.

>> No.11871868

>>11871762
Pretty much this, you can buy a nice piece of salmon from the market for that amount of money that is bigger than the amount they put in a pokebowl.

It has basically become a chain restaurant thing where their strategy is making as much money for the lowest cost of ingredients.

Why do hipsters always stuff these things with vegetables and fucking rice and garbage when the fish is meant to be the focus?

because they aren't hipsters, anon. they're Yids.

>> No.11871886

The real simple answer to this is that this isn't the work of hipsters, it's that fresh fish for this is expensive as hell for restaurants, along with the degenerate and dystopian nature of the area these restaurants are in, that Californians (the people living primary place on this side of the international date line to find poke) are forced to reduce fish portions down drastically and still charge high prices to make it work.

>it's that fresh fish for this is expensive as hell for restaurants

I go to a Chinese market and find the same sushi toppings laid out in packs in the frozen section, the very same plenty of sushi chains use on their expensive sushi and sashimi. Same goes for the Gyouza.

You can't really judge how old the tuna is since they artificially make it red. Expensive low fish dishes are not only in Cali but the pokebowl hype is in a lot of countries, like mentioned before it is a quick get rich marketing tactic to sell quantity instead of quality for an expensive price tag.

maybe I'm wrong but isn't sushi is rice with thing on top and sashimi the standalone fish slices?

Personally I get spicy tuna, salmon and either yellowtail or extra spicy tuna. Then I just tell them to load my bowl up with everything, excluding pickled ginger and jalapenos.

Pokes are good but fucking overpriced, just because it looks good on instagram.

>> No.11873817

>>11873611
Eh I don't think it's overpriced. Maybe it's because I live near the water, but I can get a nice poke bowl for like $15, with three generous scoops of protein. I can never finish that in one sitting either, it usually lasts me 2-3 meals.

>> No.11873921

Well why do they buy it if they can get better fish and more of it at a better price if it doesn't have the poke label slapped on it?
