Is it possible to dull your senses to subtle levels of spicy food? I have a pretty high tolerance, but it's nothing extraordinary considering my family and I are as white as it gets.
I was making sausage casserole for dinner, and I added several drops of Tabasco so that there was warmth but nothing uncomfortable. After everyone sat down to eat, I was happily eating feeling a warmth in my mouth, while everyone was slightly sweating and saying it was too spicy - even my brother who normally eats spicy food says it was a bit too spicy. Have I just dulled my senses and lost the ability to feel faint spiciness, or is everyone in my family just a massive wimp?

I'm not kidding, this is a genuine question.
I tend to have spicy food, and I don't know if minor spicy food is now too subtle for me to pick up. I know that eating spicy food increases your tolerance, but I figured it increased the boundaries as opposed to shifting them

>but I figured it increased the boundaries as opposed to shifting them
you figured wrong.

that said, "several drops of tabasco" in a serving of spaghetti for several people does make it sound like your family has exceptionally low tolerance for heat.

I'm white and have been eating chili peppers since I was in diapers. You can get desensitized but being honest I just love the burning feeling. Hottest pepper I've had was ghost pepper and it burned but it was exciting. Tabasco is weak sauce for me. I usually add chinese chili paste to my food.

going to the er for capsaicin cramps should be illegal
yet it happens all the time
they will pass. there's nothing anyone can do. only thing that has ever worked for me is never eating superhots or a really rough extract sauce on an empty stomach. and if they happen, you just have to lie on your back and massage it through. it hurts and can make you panic but they will never get worse
this guy is an absolute retard
this is obvious from just looking at him, but in terms of his brain he is a retard

Is 50k really enough to bankrupt someone from whatever shit hole country you live in? Thats like the average salary of a 23yo right outa college.

I think overtime the more spicy food you eat, the more your taste is adjusted and 'dulled'.

As a teen the 'hot' chili at my local mexican chain (Santiagbro's), was too much for me to handle. Now i get the extra extra hot and its nothing. I dont think they changed their recipes, i just got used to eating it.

My tolerance to spiciness spikes for a day after eating something really spicy. Happens when I eat paqui ghost pepper chips.

I think so, used to I'd get teary eyed eating buffalo sauce nuggets, now I just need a drink afterward cause mcdonalds puts tons of sodium in it.

No, it's what you think. My mom complains some food is too spicy when I literally cannot detect any heat at all.

i used to use pickled jalapenos like a condiment but I can't even detect spiciness from jalapenos since I started cooking with real chilies

tobasco is just red colored vinegar
