Should Kraft Singles and Cheez Whiz become protected designations like Parmigiano Reggiano and Champagne in order to preserve American cultural heritage and protect consumers from imitators?

No. American culinary heritage is it's regional diversity and it's knack for food fusions. Nobody gives two shits about plasticheese.

They already are. Kraft singles is a brand, not a kind of cheese. Kraft singles are pasteurized prepared cheese product meaning it’s cheese that was emulsified and cut with oil for a consistent smooth product. Kraft Cheeze Whiz is also a brand that contains less cheese in the product than the prior. I don’t know the exact name of what it’s made with.

Europe grocery stores sell "american style cheese slices" tho. Not kraft brand.
