Is it a meme? Or is it really the real deal?

>> No.11804940

No, it really contains tomatoes.

Why is it 5-6 dollars compared to the other 2 dollar cans of tomates? Is the taste really that much better?

It seems that even if it's labelled DOP there's a 95% chance it's fake because DOPs aren't taken seriously unlike "certified organic" which is taken very seriously. Well I've learned a lot. Gonna stick with 2 dollar tomates dump some sugar in that bitch.

it's a meme to get them from italy. Get "san marzano style" instead. If you can't find those then get Red Pack or Red Gold, they're great and cheap

>> No.11805036

I get store brand whole canned tomatoes, unsalted if they have it.

Main things to avoid are crushed/sauce/pureed tomatoes as they use lesser tomatoes for those, and diced, which have calcium chloride added usually that gives them a weirdly firm texture (tho if you want that, go nuts).

There crushed tomatoes are my personal preference for spaghetti and italian sauces. I find the shit is the easiest to balance flavors with.

DOP has no legal backing in the US, so it doesn't really matter if it says it or not

why do Americans always have the worst command over their own language? yikes

>> No.11805241

>>11805110
If you're seriously asking, I think in part because they learn the language by listening it first, and not reading until they are older and have already wired their brain to it. Spoken out loud, there are many legit words that are homophones, and other words could be spelled differently because of the fucking schwa (e.g. separately and "seperetely"). I think I have a good grasp of spelling because I learned mostly by reading.

The other part is that their education system is shit, no doubt.

anything but home canned is a meme

>> No.11806488

Learning language via hearing it is generally the norm for how anyone learns a language, not just Americans. Learning to speak by absorbing what you hear is wired into how human brains work, while reading/writing is a deliberately learned skill. Someone fucking up on there/their/they're is an issue caused by either a poor understanding of written convention or just not having used it enough to make the difference instinctive. If they wrote more, and paid attention to what they wrote, they probably would have done it right.

These are very good. They taste rich and acidic straight from the can.

The flavor profile of San Marzano is LOW acidity, those aren't relevant to this thread

I agree with all you said, just saying that it's harder on languages that have more homophones such as English or French. It's harder to make these mistakes in Spanish because hearing a word almost always reveals the unique correct spelling (there are exceptions sure). It's the reason Spanish spelling bees do not make any sense, and afaik do not exist.

It's the real deal if you actually eat them freshly from the farm, not canned and flown over across half the planet. Local fresh tomatoes will always be better

They aren´t cheap because they are the only way to make a certified original tomato sauce for pizza napolitana. Restaurant´s pays for them so the price stays high.
