For me, they are about equal. I really like the crunch of the hard shell in American tacos, and I like the addition of lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream. You can basically customize them any way you want. Mexican tacos have better tasting meat choices, I suppose. The cilantro and onion is also enjoyable, and they typically have better tasting salsas. If I'm making American tacos at home it's usually just whatever jarred salsa I have, or leftover Taco Bell packets. It just depends on my mood really.

Best tacos I've had were in las vegas. Although I've only been to three taco places in Mexico so I cant really compare.

But, I think the biggest difference is the types of meat they use. There was a taco place near my house that did the obscure meats like beef tounge and what not, but they stopped serving it because it's too adventurous and didnt sell. Now they just do boring ass normie meats. In Mexico I had a chicken neck taco and it was fucking delicious.

Yup that pretty much how it was for me as well growing up. I guess I might concede and say that the flavor of authentic tacos are typically better. I love the carnitas at my local place. But there’s just something nostalgic about that ground beef cooked with some shitty flavor packet with the hard shell and all the toppings. My mom used to spread it all out on a giant platter and everyone would just choose whatever toppings they preferred. Oddly enough, my mom is Mexican as fuck, but I don’t believe she has ever had an authentic taco, the only tacos she knows are either shredded chicken or beef on hard or fried shell. She’s a boomer though, so that might explain it.
