Crock pots suck and people who cook in them don't know shit about food.

Just a gross under or over-cooked mess, physically impossible to get any good results, and overrun with "quick and easy shitpiles my husband will actually eat!" type of people who would be better off going to McDonalds.

That's logically inconsistent. There is clearly a time between "undercooked" and "overcooked" which is correct. Don't blame the appliance for you being too careless to get the timing correct.

All modern recipes you like have likely got their origins in cooking slowly in a pot with a heavy lid or even sealed with a special mechanism and left to cook for 8 hours like this baby. Don't like stew? Don't like curry? Don't like lamb shank? Don't like ratatoullie? kys.

>they are jsut electric versions of a dutch oven
This is not true, for several reasons. I can sear in any dutch oven. You cannot sear your meats in most slow cookers (though there are some models which do have that function; the instant pot is one) Likewise, I can put my dutch oven in my oven, heat the fuck out of it (500F) and bake bread in it. I can't do that with my crock pot.

I agree that they are't unitaskers, but to assert they are identical to a dutch oven is just plain wrong.

You didn't answer my question, anon.

There's nothing stopping someone from browning meats seperately and cooking them in a slow cooker, other than the laziness of the person doing the work (or not doing it, as the case may be). Again: why blame the appliance for the decisions made by a poor cook?

I've often used a slow cooker to prepare stew while I was out at work. I seared off the meats in a skillet, deglazed it , then poured the liquid down in the crock pot before using it. Did that get more pans dirty than just a single dutch oven? Sure. But that wasn't the point.

The point of a pressure cooker is that it's faster than using a pot, and it doesn't lose any water or flavor to evaporation. Generally speaking you can cook something in a pressure cooker in 1/3 the time it would take compared to a normal pot. That stew that normally takes you 3 hours to cook? Pressure cooker can do it in 1 hour.

the point of a slow cooker or crock pot is that it is meant to be used unattended. It can have food cooking while you're out at work. Like its name suggests it is much slower than cooking at a simmer. A secondary function of crock pots is that they're good for keeping a dish warm for serving, making them popular for parties and potlucks and whatnot.

What makes you say that? Do you have an documentation to support it? ....because every oven I have owned states clearly in the owner's manual not to operate it unattended. Furthermore, a plug-in applance that's limited by a normal wall circuit can do a lot less damage if there is a failure of some kind than a very powerful oven plugged into a much more powerful specialty outlet can. I dunno about you, but if a thermostat fails I'd much rather be dealing with a 300 watt slow cooker than my 4500 watt oven.

The fond is what you get after you deglaze your pan, which you cannot do in a standard slow cooker because you can’t fucking brown anything in it. You build flavor by exposing your meat and vegetables to moderate-to-high heat in the presence of oil, which you just can’t do if you’ve already added your cooking liquid. I said that basically all recipes for slow cookers just throw everything in, and that dipshit posted 15 of that exact kind of recipe at once.

One can brown the meat and also use a slow cooker. You’re just mad at bad recipes. Bad recipes have nothing to do with the tool itself.
Autoclaves and altoshams and holding cabinets are the same thing scaled up and they are used in gourmet restaurants world wide.
A crock pot can be very convenient for long simmer and braising dishes if one doesn’t have an induction hob or a reliable oven. They are safe and convenient and as long as your mise is proper you can make excellent meals with it.

Oh this is just sad.

I'm gonna explain it, just for you.
If somebody wants to make good good, but they also want to leave it cooking unattended for hours (e.g. as they work), then a slow cooker with a pan to brown stuff in is a natural choice. If they do not want to leave it unattended for hours, then a casserole dish is a natural choice.

It takes two minutes to wash up a pan, anon. For many people the extra washing up is outweighed by the cooking unattended. That's why people (who cook well) choose slow cookers over casseroles.

Okay, first off:

>better off eating cheap frozen food
No. I don't know what third-world hellhole you live in, but I've never seen someone put Grade Q """"chicken"""" nugget-tier ground chicken or 4-month-old mashed potatoes made of shaving cream and potato flour in a crockpot. Unless crockpots magically extract all nutrients and flavor from the shit you put into them, I doubt that they're going to change as drastically as you seem to think.

Second:
>good ingredients
>crockpot

Nigger it's literally designed to cook down shitty cheap meats, crap in a can, and leftover vegetable pieces into stews, soups, and chunky sauces to put over pasta. Who the fuck tries to cook sirloin or a Thanksgiving turkey in a fucking crockpot?

No. It's a tool which makes braises. Whether they are good or not depends on your choice of ingredients and how much work you are willing to put forth. If you dump shitty meat in there then yeah, it's going to suck. If you use good meat, take the time to sear everything first in a separate pot, then there's no reason it can't make fucking delicious food.....just like any other pot.

Don't blame the tool for the workmanship.

I didn't say you were. I simply corrected your statement that its "designed to cook down shitty meat". It's designed to perform a particular function (braising). It's not designed to suit a particular quality of meat.

>>I'm arguing against the guy claiming that all crockpot food is on-par with dollar store frozen mystery meals

Salt and pepper your diced beef
Fry small strips of bacon, then place in slow cooker
Brown meat in the pan, then place in slow cooker
Pour off most of the fat
Add: 2 quartered onions, 2 cloves (in the onion), 2 sprigs of parsley, sage, and thyme, 2 chunked carrots, a bay leaf and a few peppercorns. Fry until browned
Simmer 400ml of red wine until it's reduced by two thirds, then scrape up all the brown bits in the bottom. Pour into the slow cooker.
>SLOW COOKER STAGE, THE BIT YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR
Add: 3 diced tomatoes, the chopped cloves of 1 small head of garlic, 1 strip of orange zest, and enough stock to cover 3/4 of the layer of beef
Fucking YEET that "slow" setting on your slow cooker, and wait for like six to eight hours
