Last chili dog thread some anon mentioned putting a bunch of BUN'D hotdogs in a tray, pouring canned chili and shredded cheese on top, and just sticking it in the oven. Would that really work? Seems like it burn some things and undercook others but idk.

>> No.11710778

Everything would be cooked already though. You'd just wanna melt the cheese and crisp up some shit and shit. Anyway, forget the buns, hollow out baguettes, toast them, some garlic butter inside, fancy sausage, pulled lamb curry instead of chilli on top, some other bollocks, I'd fucking buy it.

That's how my grandma used to make them sort of. She would boil the dogs first though and use leftover chili. But yes put them in a Pyrex dish and pour the chili, onions and cheese over, then put in oven.

I personally don't like chili dogs enough to cook them myself. If I'm going to throw chili on something cheap it's a potato. But that is how I remember grandma doing it.

Why would you do that? Chili dogs are perfect as is. No need to fuck them up by melting cheese all over them.

It would work and wouldn't be a problem if you used the right temperature, probably like 350F. The buns might dry out around the edges and get soggy where the chili is touching them though. You might as well just microwave or broil the hot dogs and chili separately then assemble. Doesn't seem like a huge time saver this way unless you're making a huge tray for a party or something.

we used to have ghetto bbq from the dollar store and get a pack of white bread, 3pack of hotdogs and a can of chilli and cook it over wood in a pile of rocks with a grate at the skatepark, lowerbobs

that dollarstore was the only grocery store in this hood, so many neighborhood black people would shop there. its closed now.

i'd leave the buns out until you're ready to spoon a dog and chili onto it
soggy bread is repulsive. it's not going to get crispy or baked by being smothered first and there's so much stuff on it it would penetrate pre-toasted buns

That is unironically an awful chili recipe, ESPECIALLY for chili dogs, which shouldn't be a super thick ingredient heavy chili, but more of a "chili sauce", it certainly shouldn't have beans, let alone mushrooms or hunks of peppers
