Come one, come all, from the meager maruchan plebs to the $50 for one 3 pack not including import fees weebs.

The name of this brand I don't recall, and its my first time trying it. Each bowl comes with a brown square that I'm not sure wtf it is, at first it looked like a mcdonalds hashbrown before cooking but now maybe a battered tofu? More investigation needed. The noodles are thicker than usual ramen but not quite as thick as udon, I suppose theres a name for that type but I don't know it yet. In addition to the 2 spice packets I added some bacon, soy sauce, wasabi peas, and kimchi, before adding the hot water from my microwave kettle.

Looks to be cool enough to eat, gonna dig in!

A miles worth of gookrunes.
First impressions: the broth has a very pleasant light savory flavor, hints of chicken. Would pair well with scallions. The noodles have that doughy taste and texture of udon that I love, but are thin enough to be picked up without dropping other added ingredients. Haven't tried the mystery square yet

The second half of the runespeak. I should have taken a pic of the spice packet, it was very confusing in its many self contained conpartments and unclear instructions on the order to add to the soup

Ate the brown square and was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting some kind of dehydrated meat substitute but really it was just an absorbent little pancake like thing that took in all the broth.

Kimchi was a good addition to this. Not sure that I would add anything too spicy unless I had a cold, the broth by itself is very pleasant. Lefotver thin sliced beef or pork would go well with it.

Read the runes, ffs.
The brown square is "kitsune" or fried bean curd. It's named in the red box on the bowl. The noodles are meant to be an approximation of udon, as "udon" is written next to "kitsune".

Why the fuck would you add bacon to it?

>> No.11694162

Huh, so I had it right the first time. Really is a bit thin for udon it feels like, but everything else is very reminiscent of typical udon broth.

Because pork is good and bacon was on the counter. I thought it was blatantly obvious that I can't read runes and have no desire to learn, but I knew some weeb would show up to correct me :) I have to say the square was very neutral in its base taste and seemed to absorb the flavor of the broth, are you sure its bean curd and not tofu?

Tried making Yumei self-heating mushroom soup noodles while out in the woods. It was surprisingly good, the mushroom flavor is definitely superior to the "hot pot" flavor. Could have been improved with a few dried mushrooms though.
It was entertaining and kind of handy for camping but otherwise I can't really see the utility of the self heating stuff if you have access to any kind of hot water.

OP here, so far out of the variety that I've gotten pic related has been my favorite. Unfortunately I ate them all before having the mind to start a thread, but still wanna get the word out. Maruchan is what you start out with as a pleb, but it's also what you ultimately end up going back to after trying all the fancy instant noodle products and realizing you don't want to be eating shrimp and coconut milk curry noodles or even less over the top options like mi goreng or shin ramyun every day. Not because these higher tier products are expensive but instead because they wear on you and get old real fast after a few days of eating them. Maruchan's greatest virtue is you can eat it repeatedly for extended periods of time and it doesn't get old nearly as much since it's so basic and straightforward in its flavors and texture.
Incidentally Top Ramen on the other hand is surprisingly bad for being the other option out of the two extremely common instant noodle products that are sold everywhere. I tried Top Ramen a few times in the past when at convenience stores where they ran out of Maruchan and I was genuinely surprised at how much of a quality gap there was between it and Maruchan. The noodles themselves are weak and thin and the flavor packets are bad tasting garbage.

Oh god damn, this is great. The black garlic really hits your tastebuds in a strong way, but not a lingering way. this bowl of instant wouldnt be more then 2-3$ where i am
and even then you could get a real bowl of noodles for under 10 bucks
amazon prices suck ass too, if they charge over 50 cents for a pack of nissin that shit is overpriced the only really acceptable prices are the maruchan and nongshim bowls under 99 cents each

>tfw ramen and pho are now cool and hip so places get away with charging like 13$ for a bowl of what is supposed to be cheap food

6 bucks for real noodles, tea egg, veg, soup and stewed pieces of brisket is pretty good though

Normally I love mushrooms but I hate that shit in things like ramen. Overpowers the rest of the food.

Granted I rarely eat instant ramen so maybe nothing of value's lost.

Pho can be cheap but it isn't meant to be cheap.
There's a place serving $10 pho near me, it's pretty good though and people still go there for the past 15 years or so.

You need to go to more hole in the wall places. I pay 6-10 dollars when I go to a hole in the wall.

Also, a bowl of pho in Viet Nam is 25-50 cents USD.

Made this for my gf other night. Marinated a piece of salmon in teriyaki sauce over night, crisped up the skin... added pickled carrots and radish, and fried brussel sprouts that I tossed in some random Asian marinade I found in my fridge.
